Hello,
I thought it would be a good idea to start a new topic to post the renderings of models built in mecabricks.
So here is my version of the Ecto-1 LEGO set:
Ghostbusters by mecabricks, on Flickr
This was the first time I used the Cycles renderer from Blender and the node editor. I really enjoyed doing it and I'm looking forward to improve my skills.
Lots of effects on this one!
Well done UmbraManis 😄
Hi guys!
This time I present you another super-awesome creation by the master Nicola Stocchi!
What do you think about his U.C.S. Planet Express? 😄

So nice!
Awesome renders Zanna!
I made myself a new avatar as a test for 1.08.
@UmbraManis Cool avatar. I am sure you could use the subsurf modifier on the hood for your character. In edit mode, do ALT+J to convert most tris to quads and then apply the modifier. It shall make this piece look way nicer I believe.
I just tried. It works perfectly! It only breaks the anti-stud inside the hood which I am sure you don't care about as it is not visible 😉
So cool UmbraManis! 😄
So, the last few days I wanted to try using Blender a little more.
I found a few tutorials on YouTube and I decided to try it.
Here's the result.

The minifigs are a lot blocky because I had to use my GPU for the render. The atmospheric effects are really too heavy for my CPU and I'm not confident enough to use the Amazon Cloud.
The render took me 2h30 with my GTX970.
That looks great SaitoGray!
@Scrubs
Thanks for the suggestion, I've set it up and the preview looks really good. I'll run the full render soon.
Wooow 😮
Is everything 3D in your image?
Yeah... if only there is a way to enable GPU for the render maintaining bevel..!
Nice rendering, SaitoGray. Did you use BlenderGruru stuff for the landscape?
Thanks a lot Guys.
Yeah, everything is 3D except, of course, the background.
Check out Blender Guru on Youtube, they have awesome tutorials and good quality products.
I have made the render mostly with one of their tutorials. That taught me a lot !
Edit : @Wlange Yeah, blender Guru is awesome. The grass essential pack is really usefull.
Looks really great.
I am also a fan of Blender Guru and Andrews tutorials. I bought the Pro-Lighting studio add-on which is great and I was looking at the 2 others - grass and skies. The other thing they develop and that looks really useful is poliigon. I might do the 30 days trial when I know I have enough time for it.
I need to be careful sometimes. He fucked it up big time with his latest video tutorial (PBR Materials). It took me a couple of days to realise something was really wrong and this is the reason why my script 1.8 was quickly replaced by 1.8.1. I just saw yesterday that he properly remade his tutorial 😉
So, I continue my experimentation.
I don't really know what to think of that one, I like the brown tone but we can really see a lot of detail. I hope the next one will be better !
@Scrubs : I own Pro-lighting studio and the grass pack. It's pretty awesome. I didn't know about poliigon but that look really interesting ! I will probably try it sometime, when my skill with blender gets a little better.
The lake picture is really nice 😉
Practicing rendering a LEGO Emperor Dalek, a grayscale test first. I am trying out render elements for the first time. I love having each pass, specular, reflection, AO etc as it's own layer that i can edit in Photoshop. Now if it's too reflective i just reduce the opacity and or layer mask it off and on in certain areas instead of having to re render it.

Designed in ldd imported into Mecabricks, Rendered using Mental Ray in 3ds Max, and composited/ edited in Photoshop.
It looks so good. Does Mental Ray have this fake bevel shader too?
PS you can embed flickr images in the forum using bbcode 😉
Mental Ray has a bevel shader. Wasn't it Mental Images who have patented this method?
Ah yes true. They are the ones 😢
