Hello,

I thought it would be a good idea to start a new topic to post the renderings of models built in mecabricks.

So here is my version of the Ecto-1 LEGO set:

This was the first time I used the Cycles renderer from Blender and the node editor. I really enjoyed doing it and I'm looking forward to improve my skills.

Very nice contrasts. Almost like a graphic reproduction.

Yes it has a bevel shader. On hi res renders the illusion does break a bit. bbcode how do i write/do that? i'm in the process of doing a color render trying materials etc.

Some Experimentation mixed with some tips from cynaptic.

Oh wow UmbraManis! The result is really nice, I'm so happy to admire so many new cool renders 😄

Now it's my turn with this little scene I did in the afternoon (click to enlarge) 😉

You're a wizard, zanna !

Just did this one today. Used two sets from the Mecabricks library:

Oh, wow SaberTruth! 😮

Updated my Emperor Dalek. I will work more on the glass, and will try re designing the Kaled creature inside. I have gone for the look LEGO use for their own renders. https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8385/28778615926_3682deb05b_o.jpgEmperor_Dalek by Andrew Clark, on Flickr

Just do [img] url [ /img] without the space before the slash. 😉

Or copy flickr's BBcode share option.

So I wanted to do some test with the high-poly minifig.
The texturing was a bit tricky at first but I've quickly found some trick to speed up the process !
Next time I will probably redo them from scratch to have a better resolution and custom bump map.

I still have some trouble for highlighting the details but i'll try to do a better job next time !

Oh wow! That is really interesting! 😄
Hairs look high-poly too 😮

That because they kinda are !
I didn't do any retopology, I'm not confident enough yet.
But I did some tweaking and I manage to get that result.

I just added a little bit of subdivision then I've UVunwarp the hair and applied the awesome Lego Shader that scrubs included in his high poly minifig.

You are lucky guys, those days I increase the resolution of most new pieces (especially hair, helmet) and they are easier to use with subdivisions.

Thanks Scrubs. Yes, we need finally hi-res bricks for more awesomeness. 😃

For now with round objects, dish, wheels etc I typically extract a row of edges into a spline and lathe with more segments, but yes hi res parts are nice.

Well, if you start to revise every imported model the whole idea to build with MB for an efficient animation and rendering workflow is destroyed. The problem starts when you have to replace your model or when you have a very complex model. You would need an operation to add more segements automatically and perfectly without caring about the shapes. In MODO there are some tools doing this by angle settings what works for some parts at the first glance but finally it will mess them up. I think of you could develop a tool doing this you would be rich soon. 😃

The only solution would be a alternative hi-res database with models based on nurbs or subdivisions for export only.

I only do it for a few parts. I like to do hi res renders, and the extract edges and lathe only takes 30 seconds or so. The sheer amount of work, and parts Scrubs has done is amazing. I, and everyone who enjoys rendering lego is in his debt.

Yes, the work and effort is impressive.

I wished I had more time like in my study 26 years ago to help to add more parts. When I did my research in 2014 how to render digital LEGO with LDRAW I fortunately found Mecabricks. Scrubs did not really plan to render his work. That's the reason why the parts are modeled in mid-res for realtime performance.

I am more than happy that Scrubs added all my ideas because compared to my time consuming LDRAW workflow MB just a blast and it's impossible and stressful for him to revise all parts again for a hi-res export. This has to be done by the community. But this needs people with very good modeling skills and a sense for perfectionism to do it right.

To revise all parts has to be done by some strict rules for a good level of quality. And all parts have to be checked and maybe adjusted by Scrubs finally. I think Scrubs should just start such a project without a deadline. Let us simply begin with the easy and basic bricks. He just needs enough people with good skills to start to collect parts for a future hi-res database. And some day we will have a new level of quality.

Or we'll hire some russians to hack the LEGO Group's database 😄

So, I have taken the high-rez minifigure and have been doing a test rig - my goal is to rig it like you would see in the Ninjago videos. I am going to have to do some in depth editing to the model to get it to work right, but this is a start.

OH MY BRICKS! A dream of my childhood come true.

One of my favorite ‪Sci‬-Fi model of all time has been build with ‪LEGO‬® at ‪‎Minifig‬ scale. And it looks so perfectly shaped and stunning. It will take some work to get the main part ready and add some missing bricks to render that space thing.

Stay tuned. It will be awesome.
