Hello,

I thought it would be a good idea to start a new topic to post the renderings of models built in mecabricks.

So here is my version of the Ecto-1 LEGO set:

This was the first time I used the Cycles renderer from Blender and the node editor. I really enjoyed doing it and I'm looking forward to improve my skills.

@MrmoTarius Really like the atmosphere of your image. I would love to see a higher resolution version of it 😉

@MrmoTarius
Whoops. I guess I´m the only one who likes the texture effects pattern... 😁
That´s some awesome work here, keep it up! 👍

@NGCHunter2 No, I do too 😛

Wow, that is such an incredible render, @MrmoTarius! 😮

Hey! Thanks for the feedback! I made another Star Citizen starter ship, the Mustang:

I'm pretty pleased with the basic light setup I used (cool light left, warm light right, neutral fill light front, plus a bit of the HDRI background), and I originally rendered it in slightly larger resolution than I usually do. I tried the "link materials to meshes" thing for the first time, and it seems it rendered a bit quicker than usual?

Also I found out that saving the output in exr format and tonemapping it later helps a LOT when dealing with harsh highlights.

As a sidenote, I noticed an error when rendering a specific part (12825 - Plate 1x1 w. up right holder), it does this in all models I've tried rendering:

You should use EXR anyway because it gives you control over the full dynamic range. It's a standard workflow in the film industry. When you use the Blender compositing you need to set here the Color Management to Filmic Blender, too and be aware that not all nodes support this actually. I need to check this out again. Maybe the dev team has revised the compositior for Filmic Blender tonemapping actually?

Just to let you guys know that I found an issue with the Denoiser. It will blur reflections extremely and wrong and it looks like it depends on the angle of reflection. Because some look good like reflections on a floor and others totally wrong like a reflection at a wall.

I have filed a bug report today: https://developer.blender.org/T52275

Another really cool render MrmoTarius!

Thanks for the info Renderbricks. 😃

I did some research on the blurry reflection issue with the Denoiser. The developer Lukas Stockner described that this is problem with diffuse and he will improve this in the future. But it's not a bug.

Now I found a workaround to get a slightly blurred but much more better result by using Branched Path Tracing. When you switch from Path Tracing to Branched you need to know that you should set the sample rate here to half your Path Tracing rate (128 > 64) and you'll have more control by setting individual sample multiplicators for Diffuse, Glossy, Transmission, SSS etc.

Glorious Indonesia! 💪

Marking 72 years of being an independent nation, this August 17th is a day that will be celebrated by Indonesian people, and so I am.

cool it looks like very similar to a photo

Thank you, @Blender4bricks! 😃 Yes, that's my goal and I feel it too, but those noises and fireflies around the transparent parts on the blurred area seems unreal. Though I have used "Filter Glossy" and the new function "Denoising". I don't know how to get rid of it... 😞

@Kamteey Can you save the scene compressed with packed external data please and give me a download link! I will take a look at your render settings. This should not happen when you have set the things right.

@Renderbricks I'll send you the file in message...

Sweet! That's the power of less LEGO is more.
