Version 0.1.4 available. Older versions do not work anymore due to Collada exporter modifications.
Empty your browser cache before exporting.

Main improvements:

  • Decorations are properly handled with support for multi materials (background material is separate from decorated areas)
  • Printed areas and stickers have separate materials
  • Stickers and prints can handle multiple material layers
  • You do not need to update the texture files for decorated transparent pieces.

There is a small bug in the collada exporter. It can happen that the export will fail. I will fix it when I'll be back home in a few hours. For now, if it fails, just include a decorated part in your scene. You can delete the piece in Blender later.

Issue fixed. Clear your browser cache.

I've managed to swap out the filmic blender files in the blender application colour management folder, but when running the script it says "Python script fail, look in the console for now..." Have I missed something? The PDF says you should be able to run the script after importing collada, set an HDR and that's it? Any advice would be a big help! Just know I have only discovered Blender through Mecabricks and am not an experienced renderer at all, though totally up for trying to understand anything that will make photorealistic lego renders. Using a mac too. Thanks!

Did you make sure that filmic is installed properly?

Make sure that all the parts you just imported are selected before hitting "Run Script" (they are by default when you import something).

I am using a Mac too but Blender is really platform independent.
We will manage to make you start. I am sure it is something simple 😉

i don't suppose there's even a shadow of a chance you'd consider a maya + redshift version of the script in the future?

Chances are almost null. They are both commercial software that are totally out of my reach. It is like USD500 for redshift and like USD4000 for Maya...
And even if I was owning them and developing something for these software, I think the number of people would be quite low as 95% of the people here are hobbyists. The few pros here have way more knowledge than I do to make their own stuff.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I installed Filmic Blender correctly. I just went to the colour management folder within the blender application file, took out the files there, pasted in the new ones, and now the colour management properties appear in blender just like your screen shot.

I open the advanced blender file, File>Import Collada, in this case it was the Krennic Minifigure I just downloaded, he appears and all the parts are selected, I click run script but it says Python Script Fail...

Filmic is installed properly, but your parts are already in the empty object "Model". You may have watched the youtube tutorial where at the time it was needed to parent the parts to "Model" manually. Nowadays, you just need to import your collada file and click on "Run Script" right after.

Hey, I have just seen that you are using the version 0.1.1. This does not work anymore! You need to download version 0.1.4. Found the issue this time I guess.

Aw I was so excited I thought that would work, but I've just downloaded 0.1.4 and it's the same problem.

I'm not adding the parts to the empty model myself, when I run the script it does that. It's like that part of the script works, but the part about materials doesn't. Though I think I may be the only one having this trouble so I have no idea!

I open the blender 0.1.4 file, import model, click run script, python fail

I also tried: opening 0.1.4, set hdr, import model, click run script, python fail

Tried it too with Darth Maul I just downloaded:

Did you clear your browser cache and reload the workshop?
Can you click on a decorated part before you run the script and show me the materials that are assigned?

Yeah I'm using Firefox and have cleared the cache, reload the workshop and downloaded Qui Gon minifigure. Imported into Blender file and selected his torso.

Ran script. Didn't work. Then reopened the blender file, imported Qui Gon collada, ran script, python fail.

Not sure what's wrong. I'm going to stop for now and will try again tomorrow, will also try on laptop later if I can. Thanks for quick assist though! Hopefully a solution will be around the corner.

Next step to understand what is wrong is to open Blender with the console so that you can make a screenshot of the error report.
Right click on the Blender application in your "Applications" folder -> "Show Package Contents" -> Navigate to Content/MacOs/ -> Open "blender"
It will launch blender with the console (Terminal).
Open the file, import you model, click "Run Script" and take a screenshot of the console.

It worked! I don't know how. But I followed your instructions, and when I got to the point of "Run Script" it worked, no python fail.

Updated to 0.1.5
Transparent material has been completely redesigned and simplified. It is quicker to render.

Great great Job! The advanced script worth every penny.
My laptop + External GTX1060 did an External GPU render successfully at first attempt.
I usually render directly in the viewport using shift + z then take a screenshot when I satisfy the result that in rendering. but it seems that the advanced script does not support render directly in the viewport. Please help!

Why are you rendering in the viewport using a screenshot? Cycles viewport is using a different method and is not accurate to the final render. Eg. it uses Direct Illumination only which means that it only calculates 2 bounces. There's not much information about the difference between preview and F12. You might compare both methods.

In MODO you have something similar. But there you can save the preview render at screen size or you can set a resolution for this method. What is not supported exactly by the script?

Not sure to render in viewport is faster or not, but I feel quick and convenient. I set sample to 9999. press Alt+f10 and Alt+f11 to maximize the viewport (4K max resolution), then press shift+z to start render. It is quick and easy to see that the whole final image will be good or not. Then I can take screenshot(s) and stop the rendering any time (When the image in rendering is good enough to me).

Seems like all advanced script features not support. For example: bevels on transparent brick.
