Hello, noticed that you added the subdivide feature to the render farm (really useful!) Is there a simple way to do this in Blender? I tried the regular subdivision surface modifier on a hair piece, but it seems to cut out the hair lines and do wonky stuff. As a blender noob, I can't really figure it out.

With your permission I can post a rather simple but time consuming way on how to do it manually per brick in Blender with the Blender Advanced (not the free) importer. If you heavily disagree with it, delete/edit this comment or tell me to shut it down. 😁

If you've purchased the Blender Advanced addon for Blender (which I insist you to do for it's fancy and has a VERY good price for what it offers), use the "Import" → "Mecabricks (.dae)" variant of Blender. Choose the file you want to import and make sure to untick "Apply Modifiers" but let the rest of the options untouched. I'm not sure if this will work for the basic template, for we need the sharp and bevel edge values.
As I wrote above, this is a per brick manipulation, so it's time consuming. I'm pretty sure it's easy to write a python script for it, but I'm not that geek. 😛

• Select the part you want to subdivide.
• Press [TA😎 to get into edit mode.
• Press [N] to bring up the right toolbar, and under "Mesh Display", uncheck "Bevel".
• Press [A] to select all vertices and press [W] → "Remove Doubles".
• Select a sharpened edge (highlighted in light blue if "Sharp" option is activated in the "Mesh Display" menu). Press [SHIFT] + [G] → "Sharpness", then Press [SHIFT] + [E] and then press [1]. Press [TA😎 again to get into object mode.
• Hide the Bevel Modifier by clicking on its eye icon.
• Add a Subdivision Surface Modifier and place it between the Bevel and Edge Split Modifier.
• Make sure there are no artifacts; usually, simple LEGO® bricks/cubic elements tend to create artifacts at the underside opening (wherever creased edge corners are connected with an uncreased edge). Usually, this can be solved by creasing ([SHIFT] + [E] and then [1]) non-creased edges at corners (here the four edges connecting the inner opening egde and the outer edge). Experiment until you get the best result.
• Select the number of subdivisions you want to have on the object, then apply the Subdivision Surface Modifier while keeping all the others. Make sure you didn't miss anything, for you can't get it back!
• Get into Edit Mode, select a sharp edge, and press [SHIFT] + [G] → "Sharpness" again. With those selected edges, bring up the right toolbar ([N]), and under "Transform" → "Edges Data" → "Mean Bevel Weight" enter the value "1".
• Get out of Edit Mode and make the Bevel Modifier visible again.

As I said, time consuming for a bigger set and not very enhanced, but it's easy to perform if you want to simply subdivide some parts on your own. Also, you will loose all mesh data/UVs, so decorations won't work anymore until you set up a new UV map. 😕

Hi, I recently downloaded Blender 2.8, does the Blender Lite Add-on work with it yet?

No. But you can import in 2.79 and open the saved file in 2.80 and it is all good. Remember that 2.80 is currently only a beta version. I'll do the conversion work later when there will be more documentation and that it will be more stable/closer to release date.

You can actually download the Blender Lite Addon for free (navigate to the "Shop" section) and render with Blender; the MB render farm is built pretty similar to the usage of the Lite Addon within Blender.

If the Lite Addon/Blender combination is too complex, you simply have to wait until the render farm gets back online. 😉
