Hello,
I thought it would be a good idea to start a new topic to post the renderings of models built in mecabricks.
So here is my version of the Ecto-1 LEGO set:
Ghostbusters by mecabricks, on Flickr
This was the first time I used the Cycles renderer from Blender and the node editor. I really enjoyed doing it and I'm looking forward to improve my skills.
Hey guys...! Shhh... 😏 😁 ...
Yesterday I rendered this amazing - stunning - fabulous - jawdropping - 😱 - outstanding creation by Nick0937 (an Italian guy I knew on Flickr)... but please don't tell to Scrubs that this is not built in Mecabricks... but in Lego Digital Designer 😮
And... and... I rendered in Simlab Composer, not in Blender!
That's a secret, understand? 😛
Grimlock [WIP] (Transformers 4) 🎉
In the next future, I think this model will be on Mecabricks, too 😉
Yeah. It doesn't look as good as your other creations anyway and I did not like it on flickr either lol
Nice! Would love to see this on MB.
Hi guys,
this creation is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's drawing about a crossed staircase: there are two ramps, one for go upstairs and the other one for go downstairs... the peculiarity is that people going different way will never met!
Do you like it? Buy this print on Redbubble!
Then, a little game: can you find this little details?
• a spider,
• a bat,
• Lego® Classic Space logo,
• a binoculars,
• Wally,
• a map,
• a frog
Tell me if you'll find them all!
AMAZING. I assume you have the LDD file. Did you try to import to MB?
I received some LEGO books for inspiration (or frustration).

I had to stop to order more otherwise I will be broke fast. 😃
I've checked all of those books out multiple times from my library! They're all great books!
Whoops, I didn't upload the image of Crossed Staircase 😛
Thank you so much virtualrepublic, I tried to import the LDD file some weeks ago: there where some missing parts but the result wasn't so terrible 😉
I'll try again soon!
I'd really like to have those books 😄
Nice render! Self-illumination rulez... 😎
As to books about Lego, a few additions:
Damn. I'll get mad with all these books. So much inspiration - so less life time. Argh!
Amazon order done!
I finished my outdated LDRAW material setup yesterday and made another test with a simple LDRAW model.

It took 1h 8m 36s on my Alienware 17 @ high settings for creating a smoother noise-free image.
On a DELL Xeon 35m 40s ... well, the Alienware seems not too shabby compared to that.
Some of you might recognized the insane Executor MOC masterpiece of Fox Hound on Eurobricks. He offered me the LDD files for free but I bought them to give him respect and appreciation. LDD is dealing with the two 35K parts really like a charm. The import into Mecabricks was amazingly fast but I had to struggle with some glitches when merging both parts into one scene with two groups. I found out that the high number of bricks do something strange with groups. They seem to be there once defined but they don't show up anymore when working with the 71K bricks model. And Chrome will crash after while due to cache limitations? Anyway. I spent most time to move the parts together because they were off after importing. The export was really fast. The import into MODO took a few minutes and the scene was ready to render. The file is 100mb and with bounding boxes not really fast but easy to handle. Render times are nice.
Here are two results now.
The close up is absolutely incredible. The parts look so real !
😮 😱 💥
Well, a studio HDR would make it look more realistic but we are in space with that thing and yeah, I can't stop watching the stuff. 😃
I started using Blender today, and I love the YouTube tutorial and stuff Scrubs gave. Here are a few I rendered today.
Question though, how do I make small light areas glow without it making so much noise? (kinda like Tron style, like Jeff's awesome Sam Flynn render) I had to use 2000 samples to get rid of most of the noise from my small lights.
I still haven't figured out how to make light beams yet for 2.74. Most light beam tutorials are for 2.73 and under, and I can't follow their tutorial because the buttons and settings are all differently located. :<
I finished the Executor by replacing the missing engine parts of the LDD import. The creator Thomas Benedikt made anyway a mistake to use rubber wheels which do not exist in grey hard plastic. I also googled for some Executor pictures and realized that the lights at its bow are not blue but yellowish. I also changed the engine parts from transparent red to transparent orange for my luminous effects. Red will look cheap and wrong. Now I need to re-render because I have to set the indirect rays for the luminous bounce from 1024 to 8192 to get rid of the extreme grain what you will recognize when looking at the 8K (!) version. This will increase render time extremely. Overall the model looks at the first glance not like LEGO. It's pretty awesome.
Virtualrepublic, looks fantastic 😄 Yikes....how long to render that with so much bounce?
