Models from the Lego Games.
Brick.Cucumber a commencé cette discussion dans Parts and Decorations Design

I was looking through files from the Travellers Tales games and they contain a lot of full models of different pieces (Example Below)

Would these files be useful for adding parts to the database? Most of the pieces are complete parts.

Hi! Here is an answer, nope! Scrubs(the creator of mecabricks) Models every part, and some times some other people(such as me, but he cleans my models up a little :P). He cant take models from other things, as its not allowed. and wont suit what he needs. it probly isnt even allowed to redistribute these models. as also mecabricks has a licence where you cant share the 3d models or what ever it was. couldnt find the right way to explain this. so I hope you got it.

Surely they could be useful as reference material when developing the Mecabricks models though?

perhaps. but we have no clue if the measurements are accurate to the real life ones

You can use it as reference as long as you produce your own mesh for Mecabricks. However with the new part system it is almost always required to have the real elements. First because game assets are not always accurate to real parts and secondly because now I need the extra data like mould seams, marking, roughness, unwrapping for baked normals, etc.

How was Brick.Cucumber able to get these models?

@MatthewRC Browse the internet to found out 😉 I'd rather avoid these discussions on MB as it is border line.

Oh, okay. Good call.

I'm not someone that posts here often but this is something I'm doing for my own personal use in Daz Studio, so I can offer a bit on it. I won't go into too much detail though, as Scrubs doesn't want that type of thing here, which I completely understand and respect. The big point to realise here though is the term 'personal use'. Those game assets belong to Traveller's Tales and should not be used for anything but personal use. It's why they shouldn't be used here and why I stopped myself from mentioning this before.
The objects need a complete rescale and often the meshes need reworking because of seams and smoothing, rotation and so on. The UV coords are flipped and with the older games, the textures are not of the highest quality (to put it mildly) but then, they didn't need to be. It can be a lot of work just for one figure. For me, it's worth it for my project but that's down to each individual and as stated, you shouldn't use them directly here.
I hope this info meets with your approval Scrubs, as I haven't actually said 'how' to do this. 😃

Having said all that, if Brick.Cucumber sees this I am really curious which game that Cyberman helmet came from? It's one I've been looking for for awhile. Is there a PM feature on this site? I haven't seen one.

@wideload, about PM, click on you username at the top right side. Then go to "Messages", enter a usernamne where it say "Start a conversation with..." and click on the balloon with the three dots to send a PM.

@Sealund Thank you kindly. I was looking for it on their profile page and never thought to look under my own name. Thanks again.

Is the private messaging system still functional? I haven't gotten a PM so just curious. If not you can contact me on my Instagram by the same username : P

@Brick.Cucumber, it works!
