What could be a useful feature for some parts is a section view (slider). Inserting a bar in a flower stud or stud with hole could be difficult because the depth is not easy to see. When you can "cut" the flower piece/stud you can basically see how deep the bar could go. Just a brain fart.
Technically sections would be complex to handle. I generally switch to the wireframe mode or use the x-ray function to achieve this.
