Seven years after releasing the last set based on the Harry Potter saga, The LEGO Group came back in 2018 with a number of quality models based on the extended universe to include the Fantastic Beasts. Eight sets are already available on the market, plus a couple of polybags and a limited edition minifigure pack. No doubt we will get a second wave at some stage with the release of The Crimes of Grindelwald movie later this year.

The LEGO Group kindly accepted to provide Mecabricks with three of the new sets via the LEGO Ambassador network. Instead of doing similar reviews to what you have probably already read on all your favourite news websites, I will focus on the new elements that we managed to include in the Mecabricks part library and that are now available for you to play with digitally in the Mecabricks workshop.

The three sets that I received are:

  • 75953 Hogwarts Whomping Willow
  • 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall
  • 75955 Hogwarts Express

Before going further I would like to thank Elspeth De Montes for providing us with high quality images of the sticker sheets before I actually received the sets as well as Stanislas Smirnov who drew and added almost all the new decorated elements.

When I get new sets, I always start by opening the instruction booklet at the last page in order to review the inventory section. The list found here is 100% accurate on the contrary of inventories found on third party LEGO databases or the LEGO website itself. First, I can identify the elements already available in Mecabricks but require to be updated. Secondly, the new elements that will have to be modeled from scratch and finally the decorated parts (printings and stickers).

New moulds created for this theme:

Other moulds that were not in Mecabricks yet:

  • 17346 Mini Wig No.83
  • 85489 3 Train Wheel Ø30 M+U Flange
  • 4332 Fabuland Broom
  • 39638 Mini Wig no.229

Printed elements are almost all exclusive to this new theme:

  • 15x Mini Heads
  • 16x Mini Upper Parts
  • 5x Mini Lower Parts
  • 39616 Flat Tile 2X2 No.376
  • 39649 Flat Tile 1X2 No.238
  • 39757 Round Plate Ø32X6.4 No.6
  • 39758 Tile 4X4 W. Bow No.2
  • 92084 Owl

As you can notice, these sets are packed with awesome new elements, including new moulds and new prints. No doubt that we will see them soon in your coming MOCs.

Do not hesitate to check the 3D models of the sets and practice your rendering skills:

To conclude, these sets are good fun to build in real life, digitally and also bring a good number of quality new minifigure elements. It was a crazy amount of work but most of them are now available in Mecabricks. We are still working hard on integrating the last few remaining pieces.

Let me know here if this type of article is something you are interested in reading more often and what else you would like to see added.

These kind of articles are very nice. Great job on all of the new parts, sets, and decorations guys! 😃

Amazing!

I agree with Samino, I really like this type of article.

Great job on modelling and decals making guys! Thanks for all the work you do, especially you Scrubs!

Great article! I'd love to see these more in the future. Great work @everyone who helped!
Not sure if I'm wrong, but I believe another mold that wasn't yet in Mecabricks was the newest Big Ugly Rock Piece.

I only considered the parts for the 3 sets here. But yes, I had to make this one for Stas.

I can only agree with previous posts. Great work of modeling and decorations(as always)! I think articles like this is interesting and can hopefully give some users an idea of how much work is behind all of Mecabricks. That EVERYTHING, and i don't mean all the builds but the parts and decorations and the coding behind all, is made by Scrubs and other users, for free, in their spare time!

Great info Scrubs and the speed at which new sets were added is just impressive!

This is amazing! I'd love to see more of these articles; diving into the world behind Mecabricks.

This type of article is something I am interested in.

I love Harry Potter, so yes, this is a good article. I have already used a few of the new pieces.
