I added a new option to the Mecabricks rendering service. It is now possible to use it as a normal render farm to render your own Blender files. This is still a beta version so let me know if you find any bugs or errors.

Button will only be active if you check the "Use Credits" checkbox. The only render options that will be used from the list are the output formats. Everything else will be read from your .blend file.

Limitations

  • Only one render layer
  • No OSL
  • Only the Cycles rendering engine is available
  • Max 8.5M pixels - height and width included between 50px and 5000px
  • Compositing shall only include one "Render Layers" node and one "Composite" node. You can use anything you like in between
  • File shall be less than 150MB
  • Only the active frame will be rendered. No animations

The render farm use the daily build from Blender 2.79 that I update every second week.
Both the Path Tracing and Branched Path Tracing are available.

Make sure you pack all the external files in your .blend file

This should certainly be a helpful feature for those who have just started learning Blender.

Is the render farm on AWS or is it custom hardware?

It is custom hardware and software. You can find photos on Facebook and Twitter.

Question: What exactly is the daily build?

So are they whatever new was put into blender that day?

Yes.

I can't find the option to render a .blend file anymore - has this feature been removed?

It is currently disabled. It was not compatible anymore after the latest render system upgrade and it would require a decent amount of work to bring it back. Still deciding if it is worth it.

Well, please consider this a +1 vote for bringing it back. While I enjoy playing with Blender and creating custom non-Lego environments for Mecabricks models, I really don't have the computer power to generate the final images and I don't do enough to justify buying a dedicated PC. Being able to use your renderfarm was super convenient, and very reasonably priced.
