It would be awesome if I could make a mechanism or other several-part assembly and save it as a sub-assembly to quickly load as a group into anything else I'm building. Like say I made a cockpit, and I wanted to use it in a different build, I could highlight the cockpit and save the group as a sub-assembly for future use. I'd love that!
Currently, you can import any model in any scene.
So if you save your cockpit with the name "cockpit" and create a new scene (or open another model), you will be able to import your model "cockpit" in this new scene. It will appear as a sub-assembly in the folder "cockpit". Is it what you mean?
Yes, for the most part, although it'd still be cool if I could take a group of parts out of a preexisting build and save them separately as a sub-assembly while still in said build, that I could then use in other builds.
Ok, I understand 😃
I agree, this would indeed simplify the process of saving parts (groups of bricks) from one set and importing them into another one. I also use this technique quite a lot. Of course it works, to isolate the desired parts, delete the rest of the set, delete all the existing groups in this set, rearrange what is left and then save it as a seperate file ("sub-assembly"). But what Thermobyte suggests sounds far easier and quicker! 😃
I am sort of a noob so how do you make a sub-assembly in the first place?
