Problem with UV map and custom decoration in Blender
slimejam a commencé cette discussion dans Model Export and Render

Hello, and thanks for such a fantastic product (donation on its way!)

I am having an issue applying a custom decoration to a minifig part in Blender and I'm wondering if the UV maps provided here (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B3dmCtByvZwEZU5xY1d4Smg2ZGM?usp=drive_web) are incompatible with the recent Mecabricks update?

I created a custom decoration using the left leg UV map (screenshot: https://cl.ly/3q163L3t3E2D)

I attempted to apply it as an image texture to the exported Mecabricks DAE model in Blender (screenshot: https://cl.ly/3n1P1E2x0B36) but as you can see it does not match the positioning as shown in the UV map template.

However, applying the same texture to another Mecabricks model, exported as a DAE a week or so ago, has the expected result (screenshot: https://cl.ly/0s1f1y0X140i)

What is the best way to apply custom decorations to parts in Blender?

Many thanks.

Hello,

The uv map that you used is the latest which is good (3817uv3.png). However, you might have added a leg in Mecabricks with an old design. There are currently 3 versions in use in Mecabricks. The 2 old ones are slowly being replaced but still exist.

The ones sorted in the folders shall all be of the newer kind. Definitely don't use the ones with the icon on a black background.

it shall sort your issue 😉

Actually, I had a better look at the map that you use which is 20926uv.png If you use this one, make sure that your minifig exported has the dual material legs (mould is different from single material legs).

Otherwise, you shall really use 3817uv3.png which is the proper map for common minifig leg.

Fantastic, will give that a go, thanks so much!

I'm new to MECABRICKS, so I don't know how to apply a UV map? Do I have to use Blender 3D?

Hello, you will have to explain a bit more what you are trying to achieve.

Is there any way that I can apply my own textures without using another software? Can I apply textures thru the workshop?

No. Custom decorations can only be used after exporting in your 3D software.

Okay thank you
