The number of official sets is growing which is good. However, the number of sets flagged a long time ago with missing pieces and that could be completed nowadays is also increasing.
Some of the users who created them are still around and are completing them when new pieces are made available which is perfect. The issue lies with sets built by people who are not around anymore and are therefore left unattended.
The goal of this model category is to provide a quality list of official sets for Mecabricks as well as for other website like brickset.com.
What I intend to put in place:
When a model is submitted under the Official Set category and that it is accepted, model library admins (currently 2 - Zanna and myself) will get the possibility of updating the model with missing pieces if it is not corrected in a timely manner. Model will still be published under the original username which means that user will still be able to open/save it the same way as before even if it has been modified by an admin.
This update will be really focused on the old abandoned set models to improve the official set library. I will also open a new topic in the forum so that you could report a model if you come across an official set which could be improved.
Good idea Scrubs! This should come in handy for tidying up things a bit. One question though, if there's new minifigures and several large chunks that need to be added, should someone just rebuild it so it's more that person's work than the original set builder?
Yes of course. It is really just to correct a few missing pieces or alignment issues.
You guys can still rebuild the same set and if of better quality, it will be flagged instead.
I think that's a great idea if that concern only some minor updates (updating by new available part or missing accessories). If need, i can help for this task.
But as Masman8675 suggest if there's need more work, if several large chunks need to be added or if minifigure's poses are too static for example, maybe it would be better to create a to-do list of those sets where active members will choose the ones that they want to do.
I'm happy to help if it's required. 😃
Great idea! This could solve a lot of problems... 😛
This idea is now in place. Admins have the possibility to update official models.
