Imported Model Turns Invisible
JD430w a commencé cette discussion dans Bug Reporting

Whenever I try to import a model from LDD, all the parts show up highlighted at first, but promptly turn invisible, all except one. You can click around the screen and different parts will become visible and replace the last, and when you set it to wireframe or edge mode, you can see the edges of all the other parts, but they are otherwise invisible. Also, after saving the project, I went to look at its thumbnail in my saved projects and the model was invisible there as well. What could be causing this and how could it be fixed?
Thanks.

Also, any parts I add turn invisible, too.

Hi,

I am not too sure of what is happening as I did not hear about that before. Would you be able to make relevant screenshot to help understand and give me a few details about your configuration (browser, OS, etc).

Preview image is justa screenshot of the viewport so if nothing is visible in there it is normal that the preview doesn't show it.

A couple of other questions. Is it happening only with LDD imports? Is it happening with all the LDD files or just one in particular?

I can get you a screenshot later, but not right at the moment. I was running an absolutely archaic 2006 Mac Mini on OS X 10.6.8 with Firefox. I didn't try Safari because that barely works anymore anyway. It has done it with the three LDD files I tried, and only with LDD imports.

I also tried loading it in the Workshop on my iPad, but I couldn't open any projects because you have to double-click the thumbnail to bring up the dialogue box, which on my iPad just zooms in on the icon. Is there any other way to open these so I can try it? I can edit other people's projects, but not my own, due to the way the buttons are set up.

If it helps you any, the offending model is named, "Miss A wing". It is currently private, but I don't know what powers you have as the moderator.

@Scrubs:
How do I post a screenshot? I took one, now how do I get it to you?

You can get it to him via email. Click on "Contact Us" below. Or you can upload it somewhere (take a look at features to format your posts , there is an example).

By the way I can't see the the Preview Picture, but I can see the model, after clicking on the "Play Button" and I can see it in editor The Invisible MOC: Miss America wing

@criker
Interesting. I went and tracked my post down and opened the editor (I'm on an iPad right now and I can't figure out how to open my projects that are private from my screen without posting them and going to the "edit" tab.) Anyway, the wing is not invisible on the iPad. I'll have to check on my computer tomorrow.

Just tried on my wife iPad and it works perfectly. I can open your wing both in the model gallery and in the workshop.
To open private models on the iPad, go in the workshop and select 'Open…' in the File menu.

@Scrubs
Okay, so all I have to do when I get an invisible model is to publish it and then open the published version and save that? That seems to be what works. It's probably my computer causing the problem. Thanks for all your help and for the tip for opening models on the iPad. One last thing: how can I post models from the iPad?
Thanks!

Now whenever I open a saved model on the computer it turns invisible, too. All parts show up in new projects, but only one part in saved projects. It's probably my computer. Well, I guess that's okay. I would rather use it on my iPad anyway. If I went to all the work to use my computer, I'd rather use LDraw because I'm more familiar with it and it runs better on my ancient device. Mecabricks works beautifully on a newish iPad mini, but not so much on a Mac Mini old enough to have been used by Ole Kirk Christiansen himself. I only recently discovered Mecabricks and it seems promising, so Mecabricks + iPad may replace LDraw + Dinosaur soon, after I learn to use it. Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I don't have anything older than MacOS 10.8 home so I cannot try that but it is pretty likely that this is the reason.
Mecabricks is not 100% optimized for iPad either but it runs ok for most things (except large models).

@Scrubs
Perhaps a Mecabricks app is in your future?

It'd be the first of its kind...

My knowledge in iOS/Android programming is close to zero lol

@Scrubs Oh, well... I've heard Android isn't too bad to work with, but Apple is a real pain. Of course if you don't know any of that kind of programming, then it doesn't matter anyway.
