Cinema 4D Texture Issue.

Hello all, I am new here so I'm still learning my way around. I was really excited to find this site because I have been struggling to find a source for high quality polygon based lego brick models.

Anyways, my problem has to do with importing the models into my 3d program. I have noticed that most here use Blender, unfortunately I mainly use Cinema 4D and a little bit of Maya so you guys may or may not have an answer.

I can import both the .obj and the .dae objects just fine, but the .obj will not apply the "decoration" materials to the objects (when I manually apply them the UVs are not correct). The .dae will apply the textures from the "decoration" folder, but then does not apply any of the normal materials to the bricks (the result was I have to manually add the texture on to each brick which is really time consuming and impractical for large models).

I did notice that when importing .dae lego models, only the objects that had textures from the "decoration" folder actually had assigned UVs but the other bricks (the ones that lost their materials on import) did not have UV layouts.

So pretty much I am seeing if there is a way around this where the materials will all apply to the objects on import.
Since these models where made for blender, I am not expecting there to be a solution for me, but I thought I would at least ask.

Hello, I am not using C4D myselft but I am pretty sure some users managed to import models correctly however I am unsure of what they managed to do. However I can give you a few tips.

Parts that are not decorated on Mecabricks don't have any UV layouts. So what you noted is perfectly normal.

With the collada format. Which options did you try. For example Modo only support 'group by geometry and colours' while others like Blender supports the option 'group by geometry'. I am not too sure how c4d supports object instances.

Another solution if really you cannot find a way to import ditectly in c4d is to go through blender and export in another format maybe.

Thanks, I think I tried exporting with all the different options but I will double check. Since blender is free I might give that a try as well. Will let you know how it goes.

I did figure out a way to import the textures with the .obj so that is fixed and I am ready to render! 😃

Looking forward to seeing your renders on Mecabricks! (I actually saw a few of yours on twitter already 😉 )

SaberTruth- Are you saying you were able to import textures in C4D? I'd like to know if there is a solution for this.

I export to DAE, then use autodesk to convert to fbx. This works great and keeps the textures.

Oye bro que autodesk usas maya o 3d max
