3D file for printing a part

Hello Scrubs,

Recently, a friend of mine has bought a 3D printer and offer me to print pieces if I wanted to. I immediatly though of printing lego parts.

I've created my lego ideas project here (newtonian telescope) and I thank you for giving us the ability of doing that, your website is incredible ^^

For my project, I need cylinder quarter 4 x 4 x 6 black (reference 30562, 11 of them), but this part is very rare and very expensive. So I was wondering if it is possible to have the 3D file for this part so I could give it to my friend and he could print it for me.

Thanks a lot.

Generally, 3D printers require a STL file. You can try to export it from the workshop. The only thing that might be a little issue is that it needs to be 1 shell only. If it is really needed, I can spend 10 minutes cleaning it for you. LEGO pieces might not be the easiest to print though. It will depend on the printer technology and material (I use 3D printing for rapid prototyping for my daily job). Don't hesitate to post the result here. It would be interesting.

You're right, the file format for the printer is STL.

It would be nice if you can clean it for me 😃

I've just seen how to export it from the workshop so I'll wait for you to clean it, and when it'll be printed, I'll sure post the result here.

Thanks again.

Hello,

I'm back to see if you had time to clean the part ?

Thanks a lot.

Hello,
No, it was a bit of a rush this week to prepare my trip - I am flying from New Zealand to France in a few hours. You shall try first with the stl file of your part exported from the workshop. It shall work too. I don't know how experienced your friend is with 3D printing but it might need a few tries before getting something that you can use in an assembly (if it is ever possible). The model and machine parameters will need to be tweaked to get the correct clutch power.
