Rendering With Lower CPU

I was wondering if there was a way to render things without using 100% of the CPU, but still have it render about as fast as normal. I tried lowering the number of threads to use, and it lowered the CPU to about 50%, but it took twice as long. Is there a way to render with less CPU and not be demanding on the computer?

If your CPU is only working half as hard, the render is going to take twice as long. You can't fight math.
