Hello,

Part database is growing and more and more people are willing to help. I think it is a good time to share information and tips about making decorations for Mecabricks pieces.

Decorations in Mecabricks are PNG images (sRGB IEC61966–2.1) that are projected on the 3D objects using uv mapping technic.

Please have a look in this folder to download the uv maps available https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3dmCtByvZwEZU5xY1d4Smg2ZGM
They are of unequal quality and some parts have multiple revisions. Don't hesitate to ask here if you are unsure.

For the colour palette used on mecabricks download this file http://www.mecabricks.com/docs/colour_chart.pdf
Don't hesitate to redownload it often as I'm updating the mecabricks colour values any now and then.

There is only one deviation from the colour chart to remember and it is for Black 26:

  • If Black is used as the background colour of the decorated part, use the value from the chart (#101010)
  • If Black is only part of the decoration, use #010101

Question about the new custom decorations system: (I'm sorry if this is not the right place to post this)
I made a custom decoration, but how do I use it in the workshop?
There is a submit button under the words "Official Library", but this is just a test decoration, and I only want it for personal use. Would it become public?

Edit: Oh, sorry.

This has been discussed already. The short answer is that you cannot. That is work in progress and only accessible in the part manager for now.

The approval workflow shall only be used to submit real existing decorations. That is replacing the old dropbox.

How to use custom parts maked in part manager?

Look at the answer right above yours dude

can someone make custom ww2 flags, from all the nations that were in the war? #11055 flags

Specifically the Alies and the Nazis

Hi Scrubs,
I tried to create my first decoration, the torso of the 90's space police minifigures (973p69).
I uploaded it to the dropbox in the decoration section. Let me know if it's correct and if the image is well done.

If all goes well I could create more 😃

Hi Scrubs. I'm kinda new to the site, so please forgive me if I ask you a question that was already answered, or if the question is stupid, etc. This technically might be the wrong forum to ask this, but I need some serious help. I want to create some new decorated LEGO® Technic pieces and some LEGO® Marvel Super Heroes pieces and add them to the parts inventory. I have read your directions and general information forums, but I have an interesting situation to say the least that I need your help with. The problem is that I don't have any of the programs you suggested to use. I only have Paint. Can I still create the pieces I need? And if that is doable, can you send me some instructions on how to do so? Please reply as soon as if you're able to. Thanks you an infinite amount of times!

I tried creating the print for Flat Tile 2X2, Round No. "1007" with the UV layout, but for some reason the sides of the piece aren't changing colour like the top. Is there a reason why this is happening?

Good and useful information, thanks for sharing it with us

Hi, not sure if this is the correct thread to post this in. My latest MOC requires me to use the door element 60797. This is a 2 tone piece consisting of the coloured door frame with transparent window panes. In mecabricks this part is available in a couple of different colour combos but I need it to be red with trans clear window panes.

Is it possible to recolour parts in mecabricks which already have a specified colour and if so, how would I go about doing that?

This is possible, but only for parts which have been converted to the new parts system, which the part you are using hasn't. You can check whether parts are in the new system by searching for them in the parts tab; if they have been converted they will have a number 2 in the top-left corner. Eventually all parts will be converted, but it takes a lot of time.

Ok, thanks for letting me know. I'll use a different part instead.

whats the best size for a minifigure torso part custom image?

For the torso part #3814 UV map, the optimal size is 1024x1024px.

The image size should match the UV map that you use. For the torso, there is only one UV map. To find the size of the image you should make, you can check the size in the UV Layout section on the right sidebar under the TEXTURES window. I highlighted it here in blue for you.
