A suggestion for your consideration to provide the ability within the workshop to select parts in the current model via a menu option.
Context - interacting with a model in the workshop via the mouse/keyboard works well in most circumstances but there are occasions when being able to select a part/multiple parts via a menu would be more effective. For example, when I modelled the train diamond crossing and got some of the parts the wrong colour, I could find the erroneous parts by selecting them individually using the mouse and checking the colour but it would have been easier if I had been able to quickly say "select all of the parts with colour 'X'".
The suggestion therefore would be to enhance the "select" capability as follows;
The "Select by colour" or "Select by type" menu item would, when made to be the current menu item, expand a sub-menu to show only the colours or type of parts contained in the current model. Selecting the sub-menu item would select all parts of the given colour/type (as appropriate).
The "And" to current selection would be a "tick box" menu item which, when selected, would take whichever parts were currently selected (e.g. from a prior use of the "select" menu) and only apply the next "Select by colour" or "Select by type" menu option to those parts.
The "Or" to current selection would be a "tick box" menu item which, when selected, would expand the currently selceted parts to include those part which are identified by the next "Select by colour" or "Select by type" menu option to those parts.
The Invert current selection would toggle all parts currently selected to be deselected and all parts which weren't selected would now be selected.
When neither of the "And" or "Or" menu item tick boxes are ticked, using the "Select by colour" or "Select by type" menu item would change the selected parts from whatever was currently selected to whatever parts meet the new colour or type criteria.
Add this capability would, for example, allow one to quickly find; parts which you wanted to change the colour of or extraneous parts included by error in the model
Perhaps "And" and "Or" are too IT-like terms and some alternative wording may be more easily understood e.g. "Restrict selection" and "Add to selection". Or even a nice icon to conceptually illustrate "and" and "or" such as a Venn diagram?
Fold, mutilate or spindle this suggestion as you see fit.
Regards,
David
