If the part that you just added to the scene or snapped is not in the desired orientation, you can use the arrow keys ← and → to quickly rotate it along the Y axis (in the selected space: local or global) with 45° steps. Of course, it also works with groups.
I found this shortcut pretty useful as it goes quicker than switching to the rotation gizmo and pulling the Y handle.
Along these same lines, it would be extremely helpful if the up and down arrows would rotate objects along the X axis in similar increments.
Good point. I will look into that 😃
I added the support of up and down arrows to rotate 45° around the X axis.
It would be great if I could also add keys to rotate around the Y axis, but I'm not too sure which ones to use.
Nice shoot! I dunno how I've done without X axis rotation till now...extremely usefull!
Please Scrubs, update also the shortcuts topics with this new feature. Thanks
Man, this is fantastic! I can't wait to get home tonight and continue working on my model.
In my excitement with the new functionality, I managed to get my test object into a funky position and thought, "Wouldn't It be nice to have a keyboard shortcut that could quickly reset the X and Y rotation orientation to 0,0?" I couldn't think of a good keyboard shortcut to accomplish this though. Alt+0? Alt+Arrow?
Good idea. Would it just reset the rotation or position as well?
I'm currently coding the undo/redo function which might take a few days. I will have a look at that after.
I was thinking the option would only reset the rotation. I usually place pieces at or near their intended location before I adjust the rotation. Not sure how others do it.
Great Idea! As the Undo and Redo are already well in place, is there any progress on this one since April?
No, not really - it was sort of forgotten...
If you give me a shortcut idea, I will add it so that it reset the orientation (not location) when 1 part only is selected.
I'm also using the arrow keys quite often. My favorite alternatives for rotation about Z would be:
Crtl + up/down arrows
Alt + up/down arrows
Thanks! All these tips are really useful!
cuul
whenever i do this it makes my piece in a funky position and it wont "fit on" properly
go to grid and make the size small
pain
