I am wondering what kind of ressources they use for the digital bricks?

I just spent some time on the web player of bricklink which I was the most interested in. I was expecting something quite professional considering who is owning this website.

It looks like they didn't even develop their own solution which is really disappointing. They re-used the reader brigl from msx80 which is using the threejs framework. Those guys are hopeless!
if you want to check the code here it is - not even minified. They are a bunch of amateurs.

Hopefully, their desktop programming skills is better than their web programming!
They are a business with a team working full time on it versus a single guy who is doing this as a hobby 😛
I was just hopping too much from them I guess. Anyway, Bricklink is a big website and I am sure they will find their public.

The Mecabricks instruction app has been drafted almost a year ago. I have everything on paper. What I need is time and for the past few months, my work has taken other my spare time and doesn't leave me much room for coding new big features. Looking forward to 2017 to make it happen!

But what's this I hear about a Mecabricks instruction maker? Will it be automatic or will I have to set up steps like in LDraw?

It is not crap but it is not a killer app either. It is pretty much the same as all the other LEGO CAD software based on LDraw. Because of their well known name they have a lot of exposure for something not that new.

It is not going to be fully automatic. Nothing really great comes from that (see LDD instruction maker...) but I hope to make something very usable to generate pretty instructions. Big challenges ahead!

Ya, the LDD instructions generator is terrible. Do you think a custom background for instructions would be fairly easy? That could really make it look good. Not that it really matters. 😛

It would be a good idea that your instruction generator will maybe use groups to create instructions by groups.

Very disappointed with Bricklink. Never done business with them in the past and now I probably never will. A company with millions of dollars should be able to do more than a Chinese copy of other people's work. And the worst part is Bricklink has the publicity power to make this more popular than Mecabricks is and people will treat it like the best thing ever.

I still love the Bricklink database though (even if the website is ugly as - but getting slowly better).

I really like BrickLink, and it's database and amount of stuff you can buy is a blessing...just not sure that Stud.io is or not. I'm leaning towards isn't though, but I should try it before I make up my mind. 😃

I don't mind the new site design. It didn't really solve any of the old ones, but they looked like they were trapped in the 90s before. Stud.io sounds like the same-ol, same-ol, though. It isn't really bringing anything to the party except for the buying feature and instructions.

I've been playing with Stud.io a bit. There's some nice stuff in there like the built-in POV-ray functionality for VERY basic and quick renders and the online multi-user building system but it's missing a lot too like a basic flex tool, and it uses LDraw so anything you build in it looks horrible. Not to mention it's still WAAAY too similar to Mecabricks. Hopefully they'll play it smart and make something good eventually with it.

The only reason I would use this is... If it is better than LDD (I mean come on Lego has kinda stopped updating it), for an easy instruction generator (LDDs wasn't that good and LDraws is complicated), and to try something new. One downside is that I wouldn't be able to get my models to import here. 😦

I feel for you Scrubs. I checked out Stud.io and it wasn't that great yet it gets all this publicty and your site is really good, even better than stud.io yet it doesn't get nearly as much recognition as it should. I have been in the same situation. Some stop-motion video on youtube that is only 12-15 fps gets over a million views (it has been out for about a year and a half) while my newest video (it has been out for 4 months now) which is at 20fps only has 186 views. 😭

@MalMan35 As a stop-motion aficionado, I am obliged to ask for a link to your YouTube channel. I make some as well, but I only have two or three up at the moment and they aren't all that good. I don't like coming up with stories and I get bored of animating after an hour or so.
