About this thread
You will find in this section everything needed to easily make photorealistic renderings of Mecabricks models with Blender.
Software and files needed
• Blender
• Blender Add-on by Mecabricks
• Environment images [e.g. zbyg Packs]
I'm not using safari, I am using firefox
none of my files are automatically being unzipped, I always handle that manually
the files I download are zipped, but they are .zip files and contain the .xbm files (last time I used mecabricks I got a .zmbx file directly)
(I wasn't jumping to conclusions, simply asking since I don't stay up to date with this platform due to time constraints)
I highly doubt you are sending out the wrong files, but somewhere along the way they are turned into regular .zip files, which the addon doesn't read as correct files
edit:
ok, I've done some testing and renaming the zip files to zmbx does work, I still find it strange though that it automatically turns into a zip file when it didn't do that 3 months ago
What are split normals?
I installed the add-on already in Blender but I still can't find the file in Blender
@Joshlim make sure to follow the install process described in the PDF file available in the package.
I did but its still the same result, is it my computer's problem?
@Joshlim There is probably a step that you don't do right. The add-on is downloaded and installed 100s of times per day.
how to add WORKING lights?
You will find countless tutorial online about lighting in Blender

what if I don't have blender, can I do it on mecabricks.com
Yes. But this thread is for the Blender add-on.
Hello, the problem I have is that my version of Blender (2.79b) is no longer compatible with the recent versions of the free Add-On, I would like to know if there is a way to obtain an old version of the Add-On (I see that version 3.0 .5 is the last stable for Blender 2.79b), I wait for an answer
There is no point having the old version of the addon for 2.79 because it would not work anymore with the collada files exported from Mecabricks. This format has been updated since the addon has been retired and it would not be able to parse it.
It seems that the blender addon makes a duplicate material for each brick type. Is there an easy way to combine all the duplicate materials? A dae file import works this way, but without the addon, large scenes tend to crash blender. Even if I could just select all objects with the same material, that would be super helpful. It looks like it's the last 3 digits of the material name, maybe I can write a script that combines all materials that share the last 3 characters?
Materials are per part type for a reason. There are not duplicates. It would be too easy if a material only had the colour as an input. This is not the case. Materials includes way more data which are included in the subgroups generated automatically at import time. This is even more true for the advanced addon.
hello, i have read through a lot of this thread hoping to find an answer, but couldnt find much after a few pages. i just had a question about the origin of the "lego" figure after adding the rig. when i have multiple legos, the origins are in odd positions. when i try to reset the origin, in object mode, or pose mode, i am unable to move the origin of the rig. is this a common issue? or is this even something i should be concerned with?
thank you guys for an amazing product. i purchased the "face" rig one also, and it is all incredible.
