@SBZ: If you have a mouse, then press Ctrl and scroll while holding down the Ctrl button. Make sure that the zoom is set to a zoom level where you can see the color option. I don't have this issue (according to what you described so far) so I don't know the exact cause of your problem.
@roketman123: You're clicking on the brick with the cursor (controlled by the touchpad), right? Clicking on the grid canvas doesn't place down a block. Several issues can be at play:
