Is there a way to smoothly rotate a piece using your mouse? the current rotation method is not very helpful, i don't know how much it'll rotate or which way it'll rotate. if someone has a solution please let me know, if not someone please add this as a feature.

You can use the rotate tool by clicking on the icon at the top. Keyboard shortcut M will toggle between translate and rotate. To remember I think of M for movement type. To make it smoother, change the grid size from Medium to Small. This is the dropdown just to the left of the icons. Your rotation steps will now be set at 0.5º.
