By brick families, I think you want to group your parts together. The most basic way to do this is to select the parts you want in the group and use the Group function, which is the 6th icon down on the left sidebar (folder with arrow pointing in) or use keyboard shortcut [J]. If you want your group to stick together, you can lock it using the lock icon next to the group icon in the Graph tab.

How do I add parts to an existing group? (Or remove them?)
