You need to select more than one part at the same time. With multiple parts selected, the gizmo (axes) will move all the parts at the same time.

Here are a few options:

1. Hold [CTRL] while selecting parts.
2. Use [B] to enable box select. Now you can drag around multiple parts. (This will add to anything you already have selected.)
3. Use the Selction Tools button (mouse arrow icon, top option in the left toolbar) or [W] to get several multi-part selction tools.
4. Group the parts you've selected with [J] or the first folder icon in the left toolbar. Note that this is not the same thing as clipping two parts.
5. Once your parts are grouped, you can select the entire group by clicking on the group name in the Graph view on the right.
6. If you lock the group (lock icon in the graph) then when you click on one part in the viewer, all will be selected.
