New bug when applying decorations to bricks?
BazookaJo started this discussion in Parts and Decorations Design

I seem to be having the following issues when applying new decorations to bricks.

  1. Big issue - The edges of the brick outside the brick face now seem to be white after applying a texture regardless of the brick color.

  2. Small issue - Once a brick has been decorated it can't be un-decorated - i.e. if a previously edited brick is changed to 'plain' it will always revert to being decorated.

Couldn't give two hoots about 2 but 1 is a real pain 😃

Hi BazookaJo-

  1. Can you share the decoration image that you used? My suspicion is that you have a white background on your texture image. The UV map you are using to decorate only shows the faces of a part that should be decorated. However the entire 3d model is on the map... the rest of the faces are typically shrunk down and shoved in a corner. If your image background is transparent then this won't be a problem. But if you have a colored background then your part will be colored as well.

  2. To delete the image from your part, remove the image name and hit enter or click on the magnifying glass. (You may have to click the button twice.) Don't forget to delete the texture too! Deleting parts (and textures)

Thing is I've decorated scores of bricks - this is just a recent issue...

Weird.

This is an issue with your texture. UV coordinates of faces not decorable are all located at (0,0). You have a border on your texture which is the issue. The bottom left corner shall always be transparent.

Sincerest thanks B1/Scrubs can't believe I didn't spot that - cheers guys.

BTW - is it possible to submit UV maps for parts missing from the list of customisable bricks and if so is there a tutorial?

My Wacky Racers minis need patterns on parasols (4389😎 😃

Big thanks again Joe.

Hi Joe,

If you need the part in Mecabricks, unfortunately the answer is no until that part gets updated. But if you need it for a render or animation outside of Mecabricks, then you can do the texture work in Blender or other 3d program. The workflow is different, but the concept is the same.

By the way, to format your links, you can use the following code:
[url]https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmVOhU0LRIJb1TFreO20oMjad6Uj[/url]

If you wrap your link with these URL tags It will look like this:

[url]https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmVOhU0LRIJb1TFreO20oMjad6Uj[/url]

(I think the automatic link formatting function broke on the exclamation point.)

Aw pants - Huge thanks again anyways B1- corking site BTW - tried Studio LDD and this blows them all away IMHO.

For some reason I can't render my parts it keeps saying that another part is being rendered but it's not
