How do you make custom parts?
Try this if you're trying to make a custom decoration on an already modeled part:

If you want to make new elements (i.e. a different shape) then that is a different process that very few people do.
@B1Trash can you create a new thread in this section of the forum and copy and paste you great images and explanations. I will pin it for everybody to read. It would be really great.
Can do.
Can kind of do... Scrubs, I stuck it in the wrong section (Help & Tips). Is it possible for you to move it over? I can repost if you want, but I'm not sure you want two of these floating around.
Just repost it in the correct section and I will delete the other one. That would be the easiest for me.
how do you recolor a certain part of the piece? I know that you are able to re-color a part but what if you only want to recolor a bit of it? Also, how do you color only the design? thx
Hi Ninja-
Do you have something specific in mind or are you just looking for general instructions? If you have a specific idea then describe what you're trying to do.
In general, each part has a UV map, which is the way that Mecabricks knows which part of the image goes on what part of the Lego piece. Here is a link to a thread that may help with understanding how the UV maps work. https://www.mecabricks.com/en/forum/topic/1357
Much of the how-to information in that thread is outdated, but the concept of how the maps work is what we're going for here.
Again, if you have something specific in mind, please post what you're trying to do. Pictures or screenshots of what you're trying to do are great. I'd be happy to try to assist as would others here.
Cheers!
How do you add a custom part to your library? Not just a recolor of an already existing part but a brand new part with a different shape? For example I'd like to add the lightsaber hilt that the inquisitor use, i have a 3d model downloaded, but i just need to know how to use it. Thank you for your time!
Hi Glorious...
The short answer is you can't do it on your own.
If you've modeled the part, you can try emailing it using the Contact Us link below. Scrubs is the only one who inputs new parts, and he has to balance his time between all kinds of things within Mecabricks in addition to his life and work. So then your part needs to get into the queue, depending on part complexity, availability, what other parts are already in the queue and what would benefit the most people. If he does get to your part, be aware that depending on the accuracy and finish of your modeled part, it still may take a few days or more of work to get the part up to Mecabricks standards. Anyways, I don't want to discourage you, but I want to give you realistic expectations.
Got it! Thank you very much for your answer!
