Noob seeking Rendering advice
zardozspeaks started this discussion in Help and Tips

Hey, I've been lurking around Mecabricks for a month now, having a really fun time building old sets and making some of my own creations. I haven't touched the 'Rendering' aspect of the workshop until today and I feel very out of my depth.

  1. Is there a Noob's Guide to Rendering somewhere that I should read?
  2. Uh... what exactly is 3D rendering? I realize that's a basic question, but I feel like I'm missing something.
  3. Is rendering free or does it cost money? I was able to create a png in the render side of the workshop, it says it costs .025 cents... Do I owe you guys that? What aspects are free and what costs money?

Any advice welcome. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this stuff.

Rendering is the process of turning 3D models into realistic looking images, in this case images of Lego. One way to do this is using the Mecabricks render-farm, which you are given ten free renders with every twenty-four hours. You can pay to create more renders and to use more advanced features; this page outlines what is free and what you can pay for in more detail. You can control whether or not you want to enable paid features by checking the use credits box below the render button; if this box isn't checked then the price shown won't be charged, it is only there to show how much the render would cost. Hopefully this helps, feel free to ask any more questions you have or check out this forum topic, which has more information about Mecabricks rendering.

cool this is helpful, the link especially. I'll start exploring, good to know Ive got free renders.
