You guys don't live in the US, do you?
So basically, the school year is split up into different parts. Some schools do quarters (which is 4 parts) and some do trimesters (three parts).

I have quarters. And, yes, I do live in the US

My high school has four quarters, or two semesters. Plus, trimester has the prefix Tri- meaning three
