Creating line drawing showing just outlines of parts in model

I have seen people create what looks like a line-drawing. Instead of a photo-realistic render this just shows the outlines of the parts in the model. I am assuming this is still a render. If so what settings do I need to use to generate the render ?

Sometimes it is just the Mecabricks viewport. Switch to wireframe.
Otherwise in Blender look into what is called Freestyle.
