I was wondering why only a select amount of parts can have decals applied to them correct me if I'm wrong but its just a UV map so I don't quite understand why only Minifigure parts and a short selection of others can have decals applied
No, it is definitely not "just" a uv map. Only parts converted to the new mecabricks system can have custom decorations. There are about 3000 To remodel and upgrade. You can imagine that it is a gigantic task that will take years.
