Reusable component groups across files

Is there a way to extract groups as a reusable component group and import them into other files?
I'm thinking of a library of part sets like minifies, trees, cars, furniture and so on to compose complex scenes. If I would change the base component, all placed instances within a scene would update accordingly. Bonus would be a possibility to overwrite certain characteristics of a component like the color of single parts per placed instance. This would allow to individualize the component, but still keep it in sync with the base component.

I searched the interface and forum but found no info on this. Thanks for any hints.

You can import models into models so my suggestion is that you delete everything except the group and then save as a new model, then you have the group as a model which can be imported into any other model.

You can currently only append models using the import menu but not link them. That would require major changes to the code. I do not say that it will never happen but it is not really priority.

Thank's. I already did importing external model files, which is then a group. Linking between file is not necessary. What I miss for my workflow is linked groups within a model. Change one group, the others change as well.
