Hi, I am new to this whole concept and seem to have stumbled at the first hurdle.
I am hoping to create a simple build where I need to write a number of things across different blocks. Is it possible to write on pre-made blocks?

To make the decoration you'll need some sort of graphics software like Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator. Adjust the decoration to the UV-map for the part you want to add your decoration to. Here's a guide Scrubs made to show his workflow in Illustrator, https://www.mecabricks.com/en/forum/topic/268.
