Custom Decorations for helmets?
DaniMonca2001 started this discussion in Parts and Decorations Design

Hi,I wonder if it would be possible to incorporate custom print for helmets like the clone troopers, since I'm making custom helmets of various legions for a LEGO overhaul of EA's Battlefront II.
Thank you for your attention.

Mecabricks recently changed the part system but and only old elements converted can be decorated. There are more than 3000 parts to convert.

Oof, so that means not anytime soon?

Hi again, It's been a while since this post, I wonder if Clone Helmet customization it's still too far away?

I’m trying to make a custom printed mandalorian helmet (and I have been trying all day) but it’s not working, I should let you know I am on an iPad. Can anyone tell me how it works? And if I can do it without using other websites? If so then that’s awesome! If not I’ll just ask operator011 to do it for me...

You need to use an external image editor to create the texture first, however you should still be able to upload it from an iPad. I would recommend
using Inkscape or Gimp if you want to start making custom parts; they are both free and there are lots of resources and tutorials you can use learn to help you learn to draw with them. Alternatively, you could use Adobe products if you already own them or are willing to buy them, or any other digital drawing tool you are comfortable with. Hopefully this helps you.

Would Procreate work?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it would.

Hi - I am also currently trying to create some custom helmets for rendering. the Part i have used the map for is 11217.

When i select custom part and enter the number it will not load to customise?

Any ideas?

Many thanks

This part hasn't been converted, therefore isn't currently able to have custom decorations applied to it. You can tell which parts are and aren't in the new system by seeing if they have a number two in the top-left corner of their icon in the part manager. Hopefully this helps you.

i am having the same issue, i hope they will hurry up and fix it

@Xforce198 please excuse my ignorance but how is a part converted? Is there anyway we can get this done so we can create custom helmet designs please?

The main thing which happens when a part is converted to the new system it is given displacement maps which give add more details, like mould lines and injection points, as well as any other details on the part which are too insignificant to model into the mesh but still help to add more realism. New system parts also have custom roughness values so that their surfaces reflects light similarly to the real part, show beveled edges in the workshop and player, have the option to recolour both sections of dual-moulded parts, printed parts can be recoloured accurately, and can have custom decorations applied if they are able to be printed.
AFAIK, Scrubs is the only person currently working to convert old moulds to new system, and this process can take several hours or even days as the parts' 3D models often need to be updated and reworked before the new maps can be added.
If you want to print a part which is currently not in the new system, you can do so by using Blender or any other 3D software of your choice to swap the image textures of an already printed part exported from Mecabricks to your custom textures. The only thing you need to do differently is colour the background of the texture with the base colour of the part.
Hopefully I've provided you with some more information; feel free to ask any more questions you have.

But, I mean the more customizable the parts. The more creativity. If people aren´t complaining about the parts. Then won´t they have an easier time following the rules. Seems to make sense to me.
