Rendering Section Rules

Mecabricks is not an image sharing platform. Each artwork posted shall be carefully crafted and well composed. The purpose of this section is to showcase your best work only. Always favour quality over quantity.

Acceptable Entry Content

  • You must be the original creator of all images you submit. You may not submit an image made by, or on behalf of, someone else unless you have the authorization.
  • When using a background image, ensure that you have the appropriate rights. For instance, images from Google Image may be subject to copyright.
  • Image can only be posted once. If it is relevant to multiple models, carefully choose one only.

Entry Quality Standards

  • Image shall be computer generated using Mecabricks online render mode or any other third party 3D software like Blender. Screenshots from the Mecabricks workshop are not allowed.
  • Image background shall not be transparent.
  • Image shall bring something special to the 3D model.
  • Image shall be related to the model it is posted in.
  • Image shall not depict minifigures only unless there is something special that shall be explained. Adding a couple of bricks in the background is not considered a waiver.
  • Image resolution shall be greater than or equal to 1920x1080.

Moderation

  • Any images not following the rules will be deleted without any warnings.
  • Images do not disappear. If a render has been taken down by an admin do not post it again.

External services

To showcase images not following the Mecabricks rules for the render section, you have the possibility of using external hosting services like imgur.com which doesn't require any account. Upload your image and copy and paste the BBCode provided in a Mecabricks comment. It shall look like the following:

@Scrubs: Hello, I've uploaded my render sometimes for the model https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/MgaX0KE5az0. Why are these renders always removed after one or two days? Are there broken rules? Thanks

What are the renders? The URL right now isn't valid.

Ups, the POINT '.' is included in the URL. Try: https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/MgaX0KE5az0

Can and may you post the render here?

Ok. I hope you can see the render

@Satriani,
My guess why your renders are being deleted is:

  • Image background shall not be transparent.
  • Image shall bring something special to the 3D model.

This render is just a copy of your model. Yes, it look shiny and good but it's just a render of your model.

"Mecabricks is not an image sharing platform. Each artwork posted shall be carefully crafted and well composed. The purpose of this section is to showcase your best work only. Always favour quality over quantity."

Compared to other renders this one just does not bring that extra out of it... (and alot others does not either but they may sometimes slip through the manually selected filter)

Hi everyone

After butting my head against my renders being taken down (see https://mecabricks.com/en/models/7l2B6BGq20N), I'd like to ask:

Is it possible to receive a notification when a render is taken down?

That way,

  • one knows what rule was not followed.
  • one does not bother the mods by reuploading the images a dozen times.

When taking down renders, some checkboxes could be added to the form (although I don't know if there is a form for that process) - one checkbox for each entry quality standard that was not met.
When submitting the form to take down the render, the person who uploaded the render receives a notification where the standards that were not met are indicated.

Thanks for your feedback and kind regards

Hello,

I like Acranius suggestion. A person who post an image which is taken down should know the reason.

Maybe in the future. If you roughly follow the rules from the first post it shall be more than OK. I spend my time taking down "sigfig" and most people don't even bother reading the rules before complaining.

Hi @Scrubs

Thanks for your quick response!
I know that there are a lot of things that deserve a higher priority and that is all right.

Let me start by saying that I love Mecabricks and that I am really grateful for all the work you put into it.
Writing in a forum can often be interpreted as being aggressive or impolite, but let me be clear that I want to help improving the already phenomenal Mecabricks platform.

I just wanted to suggest a follow-up - adding a modal window after clicking on the "+" icon which forces the user to accept the rules before uploading, but I saw there already is a small-printed info below the upload button:
"Images posted in this section must comply with the Mecabricks rules. Please read carefully the rules before publishing."
I'm rather careful myself usually, but I didn't notice that little warning before uploading my renders.

Maybe you could

  • increase the font size to 16px
  • change the font color since the current contrast ratio is 2.70 (#888a97 on #46474d), changing the color to #fff will greatly improve the contrast and the readability
  • add an icon in front of the text

Here's a little mockup to visualize what I mean:

https://i.ibb.co/B6Lh8wF/Mecabricks-Render-Upload.png

That way more users should really read the warning and thus the render rules too.
I'm a web developer myself and I often see that field descriptions & help texts tend to be too small, even if it looks nice when they're not too large.
Looking nice should not always be put above usability however.

@Acranius The rendering section would require a lot of work and be fully redesigned. However the issue is that I cannot really update the code without putting a lot of work and effort into the task. That is super old and it doesn't meet the standard of anything I do nowadays. I plan to redesign the platform from the ground this year and it will be part of it. Modifying the CSS is something I shall be able to do though. I'll probably try to make the text brighter and bigger like you suggested to see if there is a change 😉

@Scrubs

Let's hope for the best!
Let me know if I can support you in any way.

Thanks scrubs

What I don't get is what you mean by "Image shall bring something special to the 3D model."

I understand the other rules but I think this is the reason why my renders are taken down.

Who decides whether a render is up to par?

Admins. If they stay up, you're good.

Hello!
OK, let's take an example... Why are these 2 renders considers good ? https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/1k2qW69XvE0
I mean, yes they are nice, but it's just quite simple light on the 3D model. Does it bring anything special ???
I've tried to put efforts in my renders recently, and they are always deleted. No explanation on why.
I don't understand why they are considered 'less interesting' than these ones. It's very demotivating not to know what you are doing wrong...

May you paste a render of yours?

It is not an exact science and it is explained in the rules. Mecabricks is focused on 3D models and it is where my resources go. Renders are just a nice to have feature. You can host them wherever you want and display them in the model description or comments. Yes sometimes it is border line. I left these ones because the resolution was high enough but really they could be deleted.

OK thanks for your reply.
I think that I'll host them somewhere else for now, until my skills are better 😃
