How do you change the colour of one brick at a time?

Im new and using a windows laptop, how does this work! I can change colour of my whole creation but not one brick at a time.

And how do you make a brick see-through?
You just select one brick and use the material panel.
To make a brick see through, you can use a transparent material or use the x-ray function in the viewport settings. However this option will make all bricks see through.
