Parts missing from LDRAW import (even though they usually exist in Mecabricks)
SirBugge started this discussion in Bug Reporting

There is a tendency in the LDRAW community to create legacy variations of parts with abc versioning added to the official parts number and NO parts with the actual official number. I've come across a couple of basic parts that aren't recognized by the LDRAW import even though versions of the parts are already created for Mecabricks

Example:
4287 Slope brick inverted 3x1 come in three versions (a, b, and c).
This means that you can only choose between 4287a, 4287b or 4287c in LDRAW based software. None of these are recognized by the LDRAW importer as part 4287 in Mecabricks.
So you will either have to manually add them back in after import or open the mpd-file in a text editor and manually run search and replace for a range of parts every time you need to import something.

I hope that the following LDRAW parts I've found can be added to a translation list as identical to whatever similar part is currently available in Mecabricks:

1x1 tile
3070a.dat 1x1 tile without groove not recognized as 3070 with groove

1x2x2 panel
	4864b.dat Panel 1 x 2 x 2 with hollow studs not recognized as 4864
	4864a.dat Panel 1 x 2 x 2 with solid studs not recognized as 4864
New version 87552 recognized as 94638

Slope brick inverted 2x1
3665a.dat Slope brick 45 2 x 1 Inverted without inner stop not recognized as 3665
3665b.dat Slope brick 45 2 x 1 Inverted with inner stop not recognized as 3665

Slope brick inverted 3x1
4287a.dat Slope Brick 33 3x 1 inverted with notch and thick front not recognized as 4287
4287b.dat Slope Brick 33 3x 1 inverted with notch, stud blocker and thi not recognized as 4287
4287c.dat Slope Brick 33 3x 1 inverted with notch, stud blocker and thi not recognized as 4287

Technic
4459.dat Technic pin with friction not recognized as 2780 (the new version with slits)

Hinge plate
2429.dat hinge plate 1 x 4 base not available in Mecabricks
2430.dat hinge plate 1 x 4 Top not available in Mecabricks

The hinge plate causes special problems because I almost always use the separate parts in different submodels, while the part is only listed as a combined "Functional element" with the number/description 19954 hinge plate 1x2 (?). But since is possible to split the hinge up and use the two parts separately, they must be listed separately somewhere in the Mechabrick system.

Would it be possible to add them as individual parts to the parts library and translation list, so I can import them separately? Just like the brick version of the same hinge?

Sim will be able to help. Multiple LDraw references can be assigned to a single mecabricks part.

19954 is made out of 2 elements but is presented as an assembly in the public library. Assemblies are sort of virtual objects and not used during the import process.

The brick-version of the hinge is split up in part 3830 and 3831in Mecabricks.
Since these gets imported to Mecabricks without any problems, it would be nice if the same was possible with the plate hinges.

But let's hear what Sim has to say 😃

The hinge is listed under a hidden category where I didn't go through yet. So, there's no conversion data entered for these parts.
I've already added 2429 & 2430 right now, so they should import.

Other parts have been added.

@Scrubs: Can you add 4459 as an alias for 2780? 4459 is used before year 1992, and after that it was 2780.

If you come across more parts, let me know here: https://mecabricks.com/en/forum/topic/235 .

Thank you Sim, I will use that topic in the future.

@Sim 4459 is quite different from 2780. Isn't it ok if it is just an alias in the LDraw import module like you did?

Yeah sure, no problem. 😃
