Hi Folks,
im considering to buy a new graphic card for my pc but not sure wich one to choose. My focus is to speed up the preview in cycles. Does someone have experience wich card performs great with blender and cycles? i often hear the nvidia rtx 2080 is a good choice but not the TI version.
thx really much for sharing your experience... cheerz chris
The Mecabricks render service uses Ubuntu and a mix of NVidia cards including the following references GTX 1050 Ti, RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 Ti.
The RTX 2070 already works really well with Cycles but the RTX 2080 Ti is obviously the killer GPU. Your budget will dictate your choice and there is no magic, the most expensive, the fastest.
I made a quick test with the BMW test scene in Cycles a couple of weeks ago:
Hey Scrubs, thx so much for answering that fast!!!
The Rendertimes sounds very very good. Luckely the 2080 ti is in budget i only wondering is there i really big difference between the TI and normal 2080 besides the pricing?
And does the 2080 ti boosts cycles in the viewport? E.g i have gtx 960 and if i trying to lightning up a scene with a big scale mesh like the ghostbusters HQ is quit slow updating.
thank you very much .... cheerz chris
I didn't do much trial in the viewport for now as the card is in my server rig but yes for sure. You won't go back to your GTX960 once you test the 2080 Ti.
The Ti version has 11GB of memory and lots more cuda cores than the non Ti version (which are used to render). I have the NVidia developer version so I don't know how it ranks compared to third party manufacturers but it shall be pretty similar.

Hey, I’m thinking about getting a new and improved computer so I can continue using Mecabricks. Will this computer be the right one for using Mecabricks?

If not, what other computers would you recommend?
