HRDI and render preview - model is black
Normann1974 started this discussion in Help and Tips

When I add a lamp (I've tried both sun and point) to my scene and switch to "3D rendering" to show preview or if I switch to HRDI mode in the editor, my model goes completely black. It's like the lamps don't work even though I activate them in the HRDI dialog. Am I missing something?

It seems be a general shading problem. All 3D model previews are also black.

(Picture may not be around forever).

Please advise if I need to debug this issue in any way.

You have an issue with your browser that doesn't support hdri textures. Make sure that you have the latest version. You may have an error message in your browser console.

My browser is the latest version of Firefox (67.0.4, 64-bit). These are the two lines that occur in my console when loading a page with a model preview:

THREE.WebGLRenderer 99 three.min.js:177:216
Error: WebGL warning: texImage2D: Alpha-premult and y-flip are deprecated for non-DOM-Element uploads.

I just tried my other browser (the latest Chrome 75.0.3770.100, 64-bit). Same black issue, only the first line is output in the console.

It might be an issue with your graphic card then. What is your operating system and graphic card if any?

Did you try on another computer?

I had this too, last month. But it was not that bad as you describe. Just a few HDRI in the workshop resulting in black bricks/models. Not all of them.

Win 10, NVidia GeForce GTX 260 (latest driver 342.01). I've used Mecabricks before (possibly last year) without any issues, but something must have changed, maybe sometime this year.

I also noticed this a week or two ago. It was one of the hdri, the one with most black and white I think?

The issue of Normann1974 definitely comes from the use of the HDRI for environment lighting.
The graphic card or driver doesn't like one of the openGL instructions. In the player I try to detect the common ones not supported by old hardware and system to replace by another lighting method. Obviously in the workshop it is not possible for the HDRI mode!

@Sealund if it only happens for one session it may just have been due to a loading error of the file.

Ok, I'll check again on Monday when I'm back from a small weekend vacation...

Scrubs: Is it possible for me to debug more into this issue to find out which instruction doesn't work so another lighting model can be chosen for at least the previews?
