Would Baking be Useful for Animation?

I've been looking into baking, but I have a really novice understanding of it at the moment. Would there be anything useful in me baking things if I were to use them in animations? For instance, baking the dirt and fingerprint maps, or a UV decal onto my Minifigure model. Am I completely off base as to if that would help with render times, or is it worth doing if I'm going to be animating the figures doing something?

For the record, I'm currently using both the Minifigure Rig and the Advanced Add-On available from the Mecabricks Store.

You could but you will have to do it for every single elements as materials uses a random parameter. Then you will have to rework all the materials and create one per element which will be pretty bad in terms of memory. If you use the cycles engine I don't think that there are any benefits in baking textures.
