Looking forward to reading some stories.

When I discovered Mecabricks I had already been experimenting with different Lego 3D software for a few years, but nothing really worked for me. I wanted something which had lots of minifigures, and something which I could easily create my own decorated parts for. I also desperately needed something which wouldn't take up too much space on my computer, as it doesn't have much storage. I came across Mecabricks when I was reading a set review on brickset, and noticed that it had a 3D view, from Mecabricks. I tried out the workshop, and it seemed to have everything I wanted, and it was all online, so it wouldn't take up space on my laptop. I was also learning Blender and Inkscape, which are easily compatible with the software, and it seemed to good to be true. What's the catch, I thought. I still haven't found one.

Well i think now it's my turn, right now i'm 16, 2 years ago at late 2017's january i wasn't going to school so obviously i spend a lot of time in my house. By that time i came out from my Dark Age and was begining to play with lego before nearly 2 years in wich i haven't played with my brother too much(our lego was of His property at that time). I rediscovered the pleasure of build things with your own imagination and i remembered that me and my brother used to make stop motion films with the few sets we had.
But then i realized that our lego collection was a bit small and i wanted to go beyond with my building and animation projects, so i started searching alternatives to physical lego. First i looked up in the Lego Movie and i was amazed of the insane amount of details it has, i saw some bts videos and concluded that it was necessary to use 3d software. I didn't know the hard that those programs could be and said: oh i can 3d model by myself all the pieces i'll need, because most webs that had lego models were paid. However my PC had died in december and the only computer i could use was my father's one, which he only brought in the afternoon and plus it was property of the office he work in, so i just had One option, continue searching.
I often typed in Google "lego render" or "lego rendering" and used to found mostly the POVray ones as well as others made with professional paid software like Maya or 3dsMax.These situations discourage me and was about to give up when i found one post in the eurobricks forums by Renderbricks in wich he shows the outstanding results he had made with Modo, i follow his posts in eurobricks and discovered the thread where the Mecabricks renders were being posted, later i discovered that it was a webapp and didn't need extensions, i was very happy, Mecabricks looked like the thing i was searching for. So One day i began to use it , i opened the workshop and added the legs of Emmet then i clicked to use his Upper part and saw how it appeared overlaping with the legs , i spend like 20 days until i got enough knowledge about 3d axis to use Mecabricks workshop properly. When i saw there wasn't an easy way to get the renders i wanted(because the hardware i had) i started searching for online renderers like clara io, not that succesfull since i can't use most 3d software yet, apart from Mecabricks of course.
I did a few experimental renders and published a model i was expecting to build for a long time "the emmet's appartment"
This Is the story of how i got to this place.
Now i would like to thank Scrubs for building this awesome community, i have learned a lot here, for example in my early days i used to use the Google translate to check if my posts in the forum were well written, now i improved my english a lot and i hope one day i would speak english as i do with spanish.
Of course i don't forget about the progressive improvements that Scrubs has been adding to the site, when te render farm opened it looked like all my dreams became reality, and now there Is an animation feature on the way! God that is much more of what i was expecting when i got here. So all i can say Is thank you to all the members, especially the BIG ones (Scrubs, Renderbricks,Zanna,Wange,Sim,Saabfan) and the contemporary ones (ArmoredBricks, Samino, etc) You have really changed my life
Hope this continues growing

Hello! 😃 You probably all know me at this point. I've always been into digital Lego Building. I used to use LDD, and when I was younger, it was pretty fun. The program is very intuitive for young builders, and easy to use. Getting older though, and starting to use more complex techniques, I realized that it was also limiting. Then it started to have fewer and fewer part updates, and never had the decorations you wanted.

When the Lego IDEAS Moments in Space contest came around, I got an IDEAS account and started building entries. I knew that LDD screenshot entries got hardly any views and (I don't think anyway) have never won a contest, because they are not aesthetically pleasing. I saw Stud.io and gave it a shot. I realized that, though it's rendering was okay, it's building was almost impossible. All the parts were on one long list at the time. I eventually saw Buggyirk's entry for the contest, the TERRA-FB1 spaceship, and at first thought it was a photograph because of the realism (btw, Stud.io says it's photorealistic. They shouldn't lie to the public like that) He told me he used MECABRICKS, and I decided to give it a shot. For the first couple weeks it was difficult to use, being very different from LDD. But in about three weeks, I was hooked. I knew I'd never switch back to LDD or Studio again! The online rendering feature was absolutely awesome, and the things you guys all do with Blender was awe inspiring. Eventually I started to use Blender as well, and it's only gotten better and better!

I can't wait to improve my skills both in building and rendering with the help of this awesome tool. As Blender4Bricks said, thanks to all of you who have been so encouraging and helpful, even when us newer users were no doubt annoying and pestering you with requests! It's been amazing to see how MB has evolved in just the past year, and I can't wait to see what will happen next!

I really like building with legos, and I sometimes would look at other people's creations online. I saw one from mecabricks, and I signed up!

That was a really long sentence, sorry.

I found Mecabricks on https://experiments.withgoogle.com/mecabricks 7 years ago. I didn't sign up immediately, but after a few days I did.

Gosh, that was early, Mecabricks wouldn’t have been around for long then.

Hi, everyone! This is my whole story.

I have always enjoyed building and filming LEGO, and when I was about 9 years old I discovered LEGO Digital Designer. At the time it was all I needed and I could create anything I wanted with it. Around when I was 13 I decided to write a letter to The LEGO Group giving some feedback on their different LEGO themes. This meant researching every theme they currently had (mostly just from their website). One of these themes was Ideas. I didn't really know what this theme was, so I looked into it. Turns out it was a whole website dedicated to LEGO fans submitting MOCs to potentially be turned into LEGO sets! I was instantly hooked. I created an account with the name 'BrickNitrogen', which was subsequently changed to StudChicken.

My first product submissions were built in LDD (these were a small Technic 4x4 and a few Jurassic Park models), and I hadn't learned how to render, so the photos were just screenshots in 'View Mode'. Obviously, this meant that they didn't get a whole lot of support (if I recall correctly, my first one gained 10 in total before expiring). I also found that LDD, while great for younger ages, wasn't providing enough for my satisfaction (lots of crashing, didn't have the decorations I 'needed' etc). So I started looking for an alternative. I had already been using Bricklink for a few years, and when browsing the front page, I saw an advertisement for Stud.io. I thought I might give it a go. After getting to know the workshop, I much preferred Stud.io to LDD. It was faster, had an inbuilt render engine, and was in general just more likable. I designed an RC Technic rock crawler with the program, and then rendered about 15 different images (yes it took a long time). This project was submitted to Ideas, and gained about 75 supporters before eventually expiring (my most popular model yet!).

When browsing LEGO Ideas, I also noticed the contests. I hadn't really taken any notice of them before, but the Voice Experiences contest offered a nice 500 USD cash prize, so I decided to try it out. I ended up submitting 3 entries (Effort-Reducing Mechanism, Music Assistant and SCORPiON). Unfortunately, none of these won. I had also submitted a few entries to the Harley-Davidson contest (notably the Infinity, which made it to the fan vote), all of which were built and rendered with Stud.io.
Around September of this year, I felt that Stud.io was also becoming quite limiting, especially due to the fact that you couldn't adjust the coordinates of a selection precisely, and also the limited render settings, not to mention the extensive time it took for a model to render. I remember Googling something along the lines of 'best lego designer'. While looking through multiple websites, I noticed one name which kept popping up: MecaBricks. (Also this website was suggested to me by a few users, ArmoredBricks especially inspired me.) I tried it out, and although it was a completely different workshop to LDD and Stud.io, after I got used to it I preferred it to either of these two programs! And what made it even better was the fact that it's completely online, there is an online community, you can submit your builds to an extensive library, and the render engine is amazing! I knew I would never use LDD or Stud.io again. After creating an account (StudChicken), I published a few Land Rovers for the LEGO Ideas contest, which got me some feedback from some great users.

Here comes the sad part. The Land Rover contest on LEGO Ideas was great. I kind of left it last minute, because I had exams, so I ended up finalizing my entry on the last day. I created a draft for my entry, which had a random picture of carpet as the only image, and the description literally as ‘description’. When I was happy with the start of my draft entry, I clicked the button at the bottom of the page. Oh dear. I’d submitted it, rather than saving the draft. With just hours remaining, I frantically messaged the LEGO Ideas people, asking for my draft to be deleted so I could resubmit my actual entry (as you know, you can’t have two entries awaiting approval at the same time), but to no avail. No reply. I felt utterly hopeless. I really wanted to enter that contest, and I had a great entry which I wanted to show everybody, but I couldn’t think of a way to get it in on time. Then I had an idea. A desperate idea. I could delete my old account and create a new one, and submit the entry with the new account. I knew all my previous projects and entries would be deleted, but I had no ideas gathering support, and none of my contest entries had won anything, so I decided to do it, in the name of success!

With my old account deleted, I created a new account: InterBrick. On this account I successfully submitted my entry, which you can find here: https://ideas.lego.com/challenges/c23a8e71-513d-4228-8191-b0f461fe2675/application/235101d5-ddf4-48b8-950e-069adc2ae41a . I then realised that I needed to change my MecaBricks username to match my Ideas username (I’m fussy like that). But I had just changed my username on MecaBricks, and I wasn’t going to wait for the undetermined period of time to change it again, so I did the same thing: delete the old and create the new. Again, I went by the name InterBrick. I transferred the final Land Rover model from my old account to the new one, and submitted it to the MecaBricks library. Happy that I had cleared everything up and successfully submitted my entry, I started looking for some friends. A few people really stood out to me, and they are now my LEGO buddies. Thank you, MOCmaster, BrickBot2.0, Bishop1859, ApocalypticBrick, ArmoredBricks, AwesomeBrix78, Lego_Lover, Lego_User, Rubrickscube, Phantom_E, Bricks_Of_Tomorrow, XForce198, CommanderBrick, TG_ProductionsTM, and Azuki8. These guys are always commenting and replying to my messages, and I am so grateful to them.

So that’s my LEGO story, I hope you enjoyed it. Please PM me if you have any questions, or if you remember StudChicken or BrickNitrogen. Thank you for reading!

Interesting story, I think I saw a few things you made as StudChicken. Thanks for mentioning me as well. 😃

I remember StudChicken. 😄

Me: sees Rubrickscube's renders "Is it possible to learn this power?"

Rubrickscube: "Not from a Jedi."

(If no one gets the reference I will be so disappointed) And, well, this was kinda how it happened. Rubrickscube recommended it after I asked about his renders on Lego Ideas, so I looked up the site, and here I am. yeh 😃 I like it a lot!

I get the reference. 😃

Also, it’s great that people bring other people here!

I get it too. 😄 BTW, just this minute I am uploading a "How to render" tutorial to my YouTube channel, so get ready to try to harness my power...

Be careful though, it can consume you.

Plus, it is one of like a 10 part series minimum. Following this tutorial I am putting out tonight will help you get started though, and make some decent renders. Just keep in mind I didn't og format them for TV, so they might be kinda blurry (but I only render in 4K, so yeah...) 😆

Imma be the first to watch it! Unless I'm to late...

It is up now.

so i was looking for custom minifigure images and i saw Lego_Lover's customs. i noticed they came from this site, Mecabricks. so i investigated. soon enough, i was in. i made an account and Lax_Swag5 found me. he showed me how to pose my minifigs and, a lot more models later, and i'm here, closing in on 50 models. so yeah. my story.

I found this while looking for lego building stuff

Hello! The way I got to Mecabricks was, I was browsing LEGO Ideas and noticed a rendered Mandalorian. (for an activity) I had been really into the show at the time, so I clicked on it and read the description. It had the link to mecabricks in it, so I clicked on that. It took me to the workshop and I started messing around. First object I added was Jabba the Hutts head 😂 I then watched a ton of tutorials and here I am now! 😄 I now know how to render, use the flex tool, I have got a model on the front page and I have reached 5k views! 😃 thank you Scrubs for creating such an awesome website!!
