I created a few groups, but now when I click the gear icon next to the name and choose "remove", nothing happens. It doesn't matter if the group has parts in it or not. Also, the plus/expand icon to the left of the group name doesn't seem to actually do anything. Should it expand to show the parts in the group?
One more - if I select a group in the group list and the parts become highlighted, and then try to invert the selection, it doesn't deselect the members of the group.

The 'remove' item from this menu doesn't delete the group. It removes the parts selected in the viewport from this group. To delete a group, select it and press delete key or use the delete button from the left tool bar. Exactly the same way you use to delete a part.
Parts are not visible in the outliner. The +- button expands the folder to see nested folders only.
The last one is a bit more complicated and may be improved in the future. Lock the group and it shall not happen.
Ah, ok, I was doing it wrong. 😃 Perhaps "remove" should say "remove selected from group"...
