Difficulty installing Mecabricks onto Blender
PJN started this discussion in Model Export and Render

Upon installing mecabricks add-on, there's an adobe file saying to "Select mecabricks.zip from the folder Blender lite that you downloaded". However, in the Blender Lite folder I have there is no "mecabricks.zip" that I can find, so can't install it onto Blender. Any suggestions? Is it a different file I need to add-on to Blender?

(Apologies if this is the wrong place to post)

What files do you have in the archive zip file downloaded from Mecabricks?

Hi there,

In the "2.0.8b1 - Daily Build Only" folder there is the zipped folder Mecabricks (This contains "init" which is a PY file and "materials" which is a Blender file.
In the "2.0.7" Folder there is a zipped folder which contains the same files as above and a folder named "_MACOSX" which contains the PY file ".init".

This should fix your problem.

@Samino Please do not redistribute the add-on. This is not permitted by the license.

@Scrubs Sorry, I did not know there was a sharing constraint on the lite version.

@Samino All good. it is available in the shop when you click on the license link:
1.4. The Buyer may not resell, redistribute, or repackage the Product without explicit permission from the Seller.

@Scrubs Okay, thank you.

Am I supposed to be getting a message reading "The Buyer may not resell, redistribute, or repackage the Product without explicit permission from the Seller."?

@PJN Not exactly a message. It is just a statement for agreement rules in the product description.

Sorry but I am a bit confused. In @Scrub 's post, was there supposed to be a link that could help me out?

Look at the Specifications tab on the product. Look for the text highlighted in red. This is the license.

No that was only for Samino.
A new version of the add-on for Blender 2.80 has been released.
Re-download the add-on and follow instructions.

  • For Blender 2.80, When you are in Blender add-on section, select mecabricks.zip which is in the folder 3.0.1
  • For Blender 2.79, select mecabricks.zip from the other folder 2.0.7

Okay, thanks Scrubs! I was having a difficult time of trying to figure out which version was for which version of Blender. XD

Actually, wait, just to be sure, which Mecabricks Advanced version should be used for Blender 2.79b? 1.11 or 2.01?

This is all written in the product descriptions in the "Add-on Versions" sections:
https://www.mecabricks.com/en/shop/product/2
https://www.mecabricks.com/en/shop/product/4

Hate to be a nuisance, but I still can't import Apocalypseburg into Blender 2.79b. Screenshots attached below.

But then it works in Blender 2.8 BETA? 😕

Does this error have something to do with the new 'Vibrant Coral' color?

Yes, this is exactly the same error message as on the other thread I pointed you to.
Please, keep using your other thread to discuss this particular issue. This is a different topic here.

In the 2.0.7 folder for my verson of blender, there is no file called "Mecabricks.zip" as stated in the instructions. There is a zipped folder called "Mecabricks" which does not include "mecabricks.zip". None of the files in the Blender Lite Folder can be installed as add-ons for blender.

If the file you have is such a problem, just redownload the add-on from Mecabricks. It's all there, I just downloaded the latest version a day or two ago. There are no missing files in the latest version if that is your problem.

I've got it to work! I think. What I needed to do was move the zipped folder out of the Mecabricks folder into a different section on my PC.
