Custom decorations using Blender file render service
buggyirk started this discussion in Mecabricks Render Farm

I would like to use the Blender file render service for a project I am working on which involves custom decorations. However, I am running into a bit of a problem. I setup my renders in Mecabricks 3D rendering view as far as the framing, the floor color/style/scale, the field of view, the image size/samples, HDR image options, etc.. I was planning on exporting collada files in Mecabricks, then manually swapping out the decals in the decorations folder of the files and then re-importing the Blender files with the files packed to render it in the render farm. But when you export the collada file from Mecabricks, it doesn't include any 3D rendering options. It just includes the model itself. So I would have to basically mimic every setting that is in the 3D rendering options of Mecabricks and put them into each Blender file to have them match.

Is there an easier way of doing this? There are 118 images for the stop motion video I am working on so it would be a lot of work to re-frame/update the options for every image in Blender.

Maybe a new option of exporting collada using Mecabricks 3D rendering options would accomplish this? Of course, I don't know how much work this would involve to put into place. Any suggestions in the meantime would be very helpful.

I really like how realistic the renders look in the render farm compared to the Blender Lite template for the renders. I could download the Blender advanced template, but I would still have to re-configure each scene in Blender to match my Mecabricks 3D rendering scenes. I also don't know if the HDR images are the same ones between the Blender advanced template and the render farm. Not every frame of the stop motion video has custom decorations, so if I rendered some using the advanced Blender template and some using my render farm settings, the images would not be consistent.

Hello,

Custom decorations for rendering are not supported yet but it is something that will be in the future.
I also don't recommend having a mix of frames coming from multiple sources. The code automatically generating the Blender files for the render farm as well as the materials are different from the Advanced and Free add-ons. This is due to the fact that I have control over the Blender version and options used to render.

We may be able to find a temporary solution for your project. How many custom decorations do you need?

Oh, I see. A temporary solution sounds awesome! Here are the parts I was going to use custom decorations for.

4 minifigure legs with pelvises
4 minifigure torsos with arms
6 minifigure heads
1 helmet 28631d6
1 cat 13786
1 minifig statue 90398d1
1 1x1 1/4 circle flat tile 25269d1
1 1x1 1/2 circle flat tile 24246d1
1 1x2 flat tile 3069d29
2 bicycle wheels 92851

If there was a way to do custom printing on the new bob haircut (92259), that would be cool too, but this is probably asking for too much since I don't think you have a mesh for it and I don't think this hair has ever been printed on before.
