Mirroring/Flipping Parts?
TheRockBrick started this discussion in Help and Tips

Hi All.

Is it possible to mirror/flip parts. I'm trying to place part 15706 ("A"-bracket plate) so it's right-hand-side is lined up, but I'm unable to do this via rotating the part as the piece is slightly out of alignment. The ability to mirror parts would help overcome this, but I'm unsure if it's actually a feature.
Can anyone help me?

You're the first to ask for that. It's not available in the workshop.

Alternatively, you can use the snapping points.

That's fine. A feature like that would probably take a long time to develop and perfect; and it isn't that necessary.

Thanks for the tip!
I just tried it out and it works perfectly.

Flipping groups would be really helpful when building and compiling symmetrical elements

In fact it should be fairly easy to program. When you flip / mirror a part essentially all you're doing is scaling it to -100% in one axis.

No it is actually not that easy to make something easy to use and powerful. It would require a good amount of programming for the UI. Besides -1 scale factor doesn't exist in real life and user would expect the symmetrical version of a part when it exists. e.g. 24307 and 24299.

Okay then. I guess when a part is being modelled and added to the inventory it should be mirrored in the 3D app. Done in seconds.

I am not talking about mirroring a part at part in a 3D software... I am talking how it shall be handled in Mecabricks - engine code and user interface.

The location of the bricks would be a sufficient starting point

For flexible parts it would be handy though. I remember a Racers Formula-1 car with a V10-engine and 2x 5 flexible hoses for exhausts... that was a pain to get symmetical.

how do you do the snapping option?

I REALLY want to see a Mirror function. It would help me out majorly. Especially if I could mirror a group of bricks at once!

I find the next best method is to just duplicate what you want to mirror, and then tweak everything to be mirrored manually. Its not the easiest, but its easier than placing each piece trying to replicate the other side.

I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to Lego (working in Lego related content animation for the first time) but shouldn't there be mirrored pieces for every piece out there? Where can I find them on mecabricks?
