It appears that the beam is on a slight, not very noticeable angle. Try rotating the smaller assembly clockwise on the Dark Bluish Grey (3L?) pin, as this should line it up.

Yes, it cannot be a right angle. The length of the beam is 32mm when the distance to cover is 33.94mm. It is missing 1.94mm!
Angle is: arcsin(16/24) * 2 = 83.62°
the two other angles of the triangle are: (180 - 83.62) / 2 = 48.19°
