Combination of Mechanics and Bricks. Except that I didn't like the 'h' so instead of Mechabricks it turned into Mecabricks.
Also partially due to the fact that "Mechanics" in french (my mother tongue) is "Mécanique".
The name came to my mind when I started playing with what is now the workshop. I checked that the .com version was available and booked it straight away. A whois tells me that I did that on 9th December 2011.
