The part I'm trying to render:

After applying the script of the Lite 1.8.9.blend it starts to look weird:

This is because of the reflection. Is there some way to avoid it?

It doesn't look weird. It looks exactly what it is supposed to in real life. First image is a basic diffuse shader (not real world accurate). If you do not want to use physically based shader, do not apply the script but you will need to design your own ones.
