Latest Template (1.8.9) issues
TheRookieBuilder started this discussion in Bug Reporting

Currently I am trying to render models of mine that I have recently completed, but there is an issue that is currently plaguing my attempts to render the models correctly. This is an issue where after the first "square" of the model in the render window shows up, Blender as a whole, crashes back into my Desktop. The method I am currently doing to render my models are the same method I used from 1.8.1 to 1.8.4. If there is a change in how I should start rendering my models in Blender, please inform me about it.

Currently I am using the 1.8.4 version of MecaBrick's template and no issue is occurring. Hopefully this message can be seen by the Creator and have a fix in the near future.

I know that under windows, it may happen that Blender crashes while rendering with the template. It is down to the use of the OSL round edge shader and the SSS node. If it is the case on your computer, a fix is to update every base materials to change the SSS falloff before running the script. Instead of Cubic, use Gaussian.

I am not changing it in the default script as it doesn't happen for most people and the Gaussian falloff doesn't provide the Sharpness parameter which is used to get a better result.

I'm still learning my way around Blender, so I have no almost no experience with it.

Edit: The only time I can apply an SSS node is when the original bricks that comes with the template are still in the scene. Once I delete those to import any of my models, the ability for me to place an SSS node in the Node Editor disappears and are replaced with volume scattering instead.

Where may I be able to locate the option to change Cubic to Gaussian as SSS nodes are unable to be placed once the default bricks are removed from the scene.

Disabling Open Shading Language stops it from crashing too.
